Alexander is a small town with a population of about 2,500.1 It is located about 40 miles southwest of Rochester in Genesee County, near Batavia.
The town was named after Alexander Rea, a settler. He was a surveyor for the Holland Land Company, and made his first purchase of land in the town in 1802. He founded the village of Alexander. Rea was also a brigadier-general in the militia, and served as State senator for several years.2
