2007-01-10 23:02:35 Good to see some new music scene info up on the wiki. How'd you hear about us? —FarMcKon
2007-01-14 11:59:07 As far as I understand, the images here are assumed to be given over to the websites CreativeCommons license, unless it's stated otherwise. In other words unless the image states it copyright, people can assume they can use the images under the sites creative commons terms. —FarMcKon
2007-03-26 14:29:39 Cool work, and stop being so uptight and have a drink, life is to be enjoyed. —TravisOwens
2007-06-16 16:42:46 Sup Gartley! Nice job keeping things updated here on RocWIki :) —NathanHenderson
2007-07-17 16:38:05 Alexander—*if you can*, please try to find out open hours when you create a new page. Usually a quick call to the business will give you the info and saves a little work for the cleanup crew (ie me) :) Thx! —PeteB
2007-08-06 16:24:32 Hi Alexander, just curious—is there a difference between "electrician" and "electrical contractor"? —RachelBlumenthal
2007-08-06 17:06:41 Interesting, thanks for the info! I'd never actually heard the term "electrical contractor" until now. —RachelBlumenthal
2007-09-14 19:11:13 Kudos on being so active with the RocWiki updates! I've gone on the occasional update spree, but you've really outdone yourself. —NathanHenderson
2007-12-14 16:21:51 Alexander-you're making great additions but when you add a new business, please try to google it. Often you can find their website and/or hours. Saves time by not requiring us to follow up and research the info- example: Canalside Jewelers —PeterBoulay
2008-02-07 19:55:41 Thank you for the help with my "table formatting"! It looks great! —DeniseElliott
2008-02-18 17:14:52 Hey Gartley i got an account —ElijahRivera
2008-03-08 19:31:24 since....now? —SarahFarmer
2008-03-08 19:32:50 good job on the connect website by the way it looks sweet. —SarahFarmer
2008-03-25 23:44:25 Good luck! Although the fees & minimum charges technically aren't allowed, I think there's a pretty low success rate getting stuff like this to change. I suppose voting with our business is often times the best way to go. —NathanHenderson
2008-04-07 17:44:48 Alex, we're just trying to keep up with all your edits, we think you drink too much coffee LOL You do great work for the wiki :-)) —DottieHoffmann
2008-04-18 10:33:48 Ahhh, I can't spell! Thanks for fixing my errors. —SaraChristine
2008-05-28 16:30:41 Alex, my comments were not directed at you, it was "Diane" who made about 4 edits without comments. Also, even if you had missed a comment, being the Edit King, I surely would have let it slide. Have a good one! —BadFish
2008-07-08 13:18:04 Hello, as a newbie, I have been watching the Recent Changes pages and seeing what others are doing. I sometimes will see some small addition, and add another edit. Hope you did not think I was following you around on the site. I am enjoying the experience and hope to be a substantive contributor to RocWiki. Thanks for all your contributions. —BradMandell
2008-07-08 16:38:53 No worries Brad—Alexander likes stalkers :):) —PeteB
2008-07-11 10:29:32 Thanks for the Carousel link, I meant to put it in. I took a bunch of pictures and got a video there - will add some stuff after I get the video on Youtube and the pix on my Flikr account. Will upload a few too! —BradMandell
2008-07-11 15:40:06 So what's your opinion on bold-facing the article subject, as I have been doing in the articles I edit? I discussed the idea a little bit here, but I'm not sure if it makes sense or not. Do you have an opinion?
Great job on cleaning up my messes, by the way! :D —JaySweet
2008-07-11 15:51:57 That's exactly my point, is that it should be consistent... That's why I started drafting a Manual of Style, is that RocWiki pages are quite inconsistent. I am content to load random pages and fix them up to correspond to the MoS, but it would be nice if there was consensus about what it should be, heh...
I noticed the way you have been fixing the hours, I will try and remember to do that. Is that codified anywhere? If not, I might give a whirl at adding it to the proposed MoS. —JaySweet
2008-07-16 11:32:28 We've been working at codifying article guidelines at Wiki Community/Manual of Style. The complete sentence guideline is already sort of official; other people seemed to agree with that right away. I suppose we could just add the guideline about boldface if you like it too. I have trouble justifying why it is desirable, but it somehow just "feels right". heh... —JaySweet
2008-07-16 12:13:29 As a business owner he has a right to have his material removed. I do think Wikipedia would remove info if asked. —PeteB
2008-07-16 12:57:30 Sometimes there are extenuating circumstances that make normally undesirable actions the best course of action. —DaveMahon
2008-07-16 13:55:51 I'm not sure if you've followed the action in the Google group, but removing the Antmore Technologies page does seem like the right thing to do in this situation. It's been nothing but drama since the page was posted, so perhaps it's best that we all wash our hands of it and move on. —NathanHenderson
2008-07-16 15:04:59 Wikipedia does not as a general rule remove notable and verifiable info at the subject's request. There is some precedent that if a person is only borderline-notable, and the person doesn't want a Wikipedia entry about him/herself, the community leans towards removal. And of course, it happens all the time that verifiable negative information appears about a non-notable person, and that is removed as soon as it is pointed out (often by the subject, concerned about the negative portrayal of them).
Since RocWiki has very different criteria for inclusion, it is hard to extend the analogy. If this were Wikipedia, we would ask ourselves whether Antmore Technologies was inherently notable, and chose to delete or not delete on that basis. Since RocWiki generally allows people to create a page about whatever they want, we can't apply the same test.
My position remains that we should we the cost vs. benefit of deleting the Antmore Technologies page. The cost is that RocWiki will not have coverage of this local business; however since most users of RocWiki are probably not looking for VoIP or "call-blasting" services, it is probably a relatively minor cost. The benefit is that the deletion will presumably make Mr. Morelle drop his vendetta. IMO, the benefit outweighs the cost.
If this becomes an issue in the future, RocWiki may want to do some soul-searching as a community to derive an official policy about what to do when the subject of a page (or owner of a business that is the subject of a page) requests deletion of the entry. I'm inclined to think that (for now) this is an isolated incident... —JaySweet
2008-07-18 11:05:11 You have been very busy trying for some standardization cleanup on RocWiki, good work (:>}, and thanks for correcting some of my slips. I noticed the George Rogers edits and helped there. I wonder if you had considered fixing the people pages to use the template. I used it for Charles Schumer and Hillary Clinton. Keep up the good work. I am having to ease off on my RocWiki editing to catch up on a lot of other backed up tasks. —BradMandell
2008-07-18 12:06:33 I agree that the people template could use some work, I struggled a bit trying to get non-uploaded (direct link) pictures to work with the multicolumn, multi-row tables. I think many of the templates could use some work - and adding in more hints might reduce the work that you are having to do in cleanup. Maybe the best quick-fix to the people template would be to reduce it to a single column by combining the data. I will take a look later and come up with some suggestion. —BradMandell
2008-07-22 12:11:02 Another "AttaBoy" for your continuing efforts. Maybe the DammHippy needs to go to you !!!
I noted your recent changes to HairZoo added in a lot of Address Macros and the Map icon does not work now. You might want to consider just using a link to their
http://www.hairzoo.net/locations.htm page which has the list and a clickable map on each. I have been doing a lot of work on mapping, see Help with Maps for some updated information. —BradMandell
2008-07-22 17:59:36 Thank you for pointing out the point of my comment about Al Cohen Bakery. —RxScabin
2008-07-25 16:48:05 Heres a project for you:
http://www.rocwiki.org/Restaurants
Add all the missing restaurants to the page, remove the closed ones, and create less categories so the page is more user friendly and easily searched.
Just an idea if you want more work. —SteveVogt
2008-08-06 15:47:23 congrats on your wedding!! I am just starting to look into tent rental for mine next summer. —SaraChristine
2008-08-13 23:00:16 Congrats on your wedding Alexander!!!! —PeteB
2008-08-19 23:32:12 Sure, sounds good, Ill leave it alone moving forward. —SteveVogt
2008-09-10 14:18:58 Hi Alexander,
I am very impressed with your heavy duty contributions to RocWiki. It is fun to watch the Recent Changes page when you are hard at work and watch you Drill up and Down RocWiki. Sometimes I take a peek at one and see if I can add a little something - not checking up on you - just the Helper Bee task I set for myself.
I mentioned you to Bill Klingensmith of MyDarndest, who was previously responsible for 2Taste.com since you both are Media Consultants? Don't know if he has made any contact with you.
I noticed you have been adding a lot of images and I was interested in them myself, so I checked on the collection. Unfortunately, there may be a serious issue unless you have made specific written arrangements.
"Ordering Copies for Publication and/or Exhibition: Persons wishing to use images from the Stone collection for publication in any format should submit a letter of application by mail, fax, or e-mail (contact information above), explaining the project and requesting a Terms of Use form and a Fee Schedule.
Use and Restrictions, Including Copyright Information: The Rochester Museum & Science Center owns all existing copyright in the Albert R. Stone collection."
Since inclusion directly in RocWiki is a defacto "publishing" act, I worry we could have problems with the images. Is there another place where there is a Creative Commons License or something for the Web Images??
Thanks —BradMandell
2008-09-14 13:54:52 I think we still need some more discussion about the copyright issue as there are liability issues for RocWiki (which I consider an asset with substantial monetary value). More later though on that subject. I made a comment on A/V/Talk about the page name and subsequently saw on the actual page that you had already commented on it. Anyway - thoughts on changing the pagename/ —BradMandell
2008-10-02 10:44:11 My thoughts were that the links into and out of the category pages should only be active entries so that they can be used more effectively. The CLOSED and Chinese Restaurant Search should find all the closee ones. I am in a Panera in Virginia and my wife is done shopping, so have to get back to you later. —BradMandell
2008-10-08 11:06:02 I am also a Wikipedia author and did some of the work on the Wikipedia Outlet Bridge article so I did not bother to do a separate page on RocWiki but, you are correct on it being a Feature. I suggest we keep the redirect and I will ADOPT it on Bridges, etc so it is still "Featured" (;>} —BradMandell
2008-10-08 11:09:19 OOPS too quick, I see it is already on Bridges. Note - when I was working on the Outlet Bridge on Wikipedia I ran into a number of challenges regarding use of copyrighted material from various sources, so I did not want to repeat the issue on RocWiki. I plan to upload some more pictures to RocWiki later as time permits. —BradMandell
2008-10-08 16:39:32 Thanks for the feedback. I really missed RocWiki for a while in VA. My laptop got the blue screen of death (thanks Bill Gates) trying to connect to any wireless or network resource. Had to steal a little time here and there from my kids' systems. The laptop was so pleased to be home, it begged for more RocWiki and got better on its own ??? (:>} You and I are now 1 and 2 on the Edit Masters List !! —BradMandell
2008-10-14 13:59:26 Hi Alexander,
As before, my thanks and appreciaton on all your efforts - I will be away a bit for the next ten days with family visiting. I left a comment on the Alternative Medicine/Talk page about this area of RocWiki. If you get a chance, maybe you could give me some feedback on the topic. Keep it "Roc"ing !! —BradMandell
2008-10-14 15:33:23 Alexander-I'm working on cleaning up Alternative Medicine and revamping it. Maybe we should get together for lunch and compare notes??? —PeteB
2008-10-14 16:16:17 Oh ok based on the post from Brad I thought you were working on the Alternative Medicine page as well. Sorry to disturb you. —PeteB
2008-10-28 15:45:09 Hi, sorry, don't mean to be interfering with your great efforts.
There are some issues with downloading Flickr photos that are under a different Creative Commons License than RocWiki. Namely, that someone could use material from RocWiki for commercial purposes and violate the Copyright of the photo owner. We would be safe if we only downloaded the Thumbnail, as most copyright discussions clearly consider them fair-use. I prefer to directly address the image on Flickr (directly permitted as long as you link to the photo's main page). The link also gives the viewer access to additional sizes of the photo, information on the camera, date, etc; as well as related photos in the set or series.

Keep up the fantastic work. —BradMandell
2008-10-28 16:29:45 The only photos that are a problem are the ones with the All Rights Reserved or Some Rights Reserved AND the Slashed Dollar Sign symbol (no-commercial) - otherwise the Creative Commons is essentially the same. I can help you if needed - let me know. This would be a lot easier if Sycamore had better control over directly addressed images (size, placement, etc). I generally use tables with multi-column overlap to deal with them (:>{
