Albert M. Ranieri was sentenced in 2003 to 30 years in federal prison and ordered to pay $7.4 in restitution in a plea deal that wrapped up two of the most famous, yet seemingly unrelated, crimes in Rochester history.

Ranieri admitted planning the AMSA Heist of the truck he drove in June 1990 and firing the shots that killed Anthony Vaccaro, his former business partner, in May 2000.

Ranieri was arrested on Dec. 29, 2000 with lawyer Anthony Leonardo after they were taped by an FBI informant in a hotel room conspiring to distribute cocaine. Leonardo pleaded guilty in August 2001 to conspiring with Ranieri to plot the murder of Vaccaro.
