The free Bands on the Bricks summer concerts take place at the historic Rochester Public Market, 280 N. Union St.
In addition to the free entertainment, food and beverage will be available for purchase along merchandise unique for sale from vendors.
Special ground rules prevent pets or outside food and beverage from being brought into the site, except one sealed bottle of water per person.
The 2008 lineup includes Kevin Ceballo (July 25), who began his recording career in 1999 and quickly rose to fame when his 2000 single recording “Mi Primer Amor” stayed on the Latin Top 50 chart for a record seven weeks. Known for mixing sweet country harmonies with pulsing rock rhythms, New Riders of the Purple Sage (August 1) played with the Grateful Dead, Janis Joplin and The Band in the 1970s.
Back by popular demand, Donna the Buffalo (August 8) hails from Trumansburg, NY and performs an eclectic mixture of folk and country-rock, reggae and bluegrass. Diehard fans are so numerous, they have spawned several web sites and nicknamed themselves "The Herd." Attendees are also invited to a pre-concert “Brats and Beers at the Brewery” party at the brand new Rohrbach's Brewery, 97 Railroad St., 5-7 p.m., where they will be able to sample Rohrbach's locally produced beer selections.
The Colgate Country Showdown (August 22) closes out the concert series. Billed as America’s largest country music talent search, the brightest and most promising local performers will be on stage as part of a competition that will net the winner $100,000 and a recording contract. The Colgate Country Showdown is brought to the market by Big Dog Country Music, The Market District Business Association and Rohrbach’s Brewery.
Vending spaces are available for vendors of unique merchandise for $35 per night or $100 for all four shows. Interested vendors should call the Market at 585/428-6907 from 7a.m. to 1 p.m., Tues.-Sat. for more information.
