BookMaid is an RIT-exclusive book trading website where students can buy and sell their textbooks. It was originally known as RITBook.com, which had an exhibit at the inagural Imagine RIT: Innovation and Creativity Festival on May 3, 2008.

Legal battle with RIT

BookMaid was originally RITBook.com, but after RIT threated legal action upon the creator of RITBook, Dan Leveille, the name was forced to be changed. This was due to alleged "trademark infringement" of the institute's trademark "RIT." William Destler, RIT's ninth president, decided to grant BookMaid.com a license to use "RIT" in advertising BookMaid.com as formerly "RITBook.com." This legal battle was reported in two articles in RIT's Reporter Magazine, and appeared on Rochester's WHAM TV-13 news.
