Booksmart Studio is a fine art studio that specializes in producing artwork, whether it is in print or book form that utilizes digital printing. Booksmart Studio offers artists and photographers the ability to have their digital fine edition work produced by Booksmart Studio. Booksmart Studio's main emphasis is the production of fine edition books and digital prints that are produced as works of art by forming a collaboration between artists and photographers with our specialist. The fine edition book is viewed as an exploration for the artists to discover a second form of expressing their vision. These fine edition books are often sold in collaboration with exhibitions in galleries & museums as a piece of artwork rather than a book at Barnes and Noble.

Booksmart Studio has expanded and moved into the heart of Rochester's "Neighborhood of the Arts." Our new facility will be 8500 square feet including two galleries, a bindery, retail store, digital printing studio, and a classroom for our workshops. This state of the art facility will cater to artists & photographers in the Northeast region of the United States. This new space will allow us to feature the artists/photographers that we work with in our unique galleries. Guest artists will teach workshops and exhibit during the same period of time.

Our new location:

Booksmart Studio's founder Eric Kunsman has a background in Book Arts & Printmaking having received his MFA from the University of the Arts in Philadelphia, PA. This training serves as Eric's basis for the tradition of the book as an artform while having a passion for digital technology. Eric's passion in digital technology stems from his time spent at RIT where he received an MS in Electronic Publishing from the School of Print Media Sciences, in which he concentrated on ink jet printing technology. He also received degrees in Biomedical Photography and Fine Art Photography from RIT's School of Photographic Sciences. Eric is a practicing photographer and book artist having shown his work Internationally and continually working to push his work further.

Booksmart Studio's digital printing lab manager Kory Gunnarsen is recognized by most Rochester artists and photographers from his days running the digital lab at Lumiere Photo. Kory is a graduate from RIT where he received a BFA in Professional Photographic Illustration with a concentration in Visual Media. The concentration in Visual Media sparked Kory's love for digital workflow and just about anything to do with digital printing. You may walk into Booksmart Studio and find Kory under the hood of the Epson or Canon machines, tinkering with the printers trying to push them beyond their limitations. Kory's work can be viewed at [WWW]http://www.korygunnarsen.com/

Booksmart Studio's makes sure that we treat each project as a piece of our personal artwork by making sure we involve the artist with every step of the process. After all, in the end Booksmart Studio is producing your artwork.

2008-02-16 11:09:23   Open Critique opportunity for Upstate New York photographers.

Every 1st Thursday of the month, Booksmart Studio holds an open critique session for photographers. There is no charge for the open critiques, just bring 2-4 of your own photographs and put them on the wall. There is no size limitation of the work you can hang on the walls.

Open critique runs from 7:00-9:00 PM and for every skill level. We divide the time equally so everyone will receive feedback from the open critique group. Discussions include visual, conceptual aspects, and technical issues within photography. —EricKunsman
