2006-08-29 12:22:11   Not made exactly to tradition, but they do make a great Cuban (style) sandwich. Also, it’s not just a sandwich shop. You can also get different kinds of Puerto Rican food there as well. —ZedOmega

2009-12-12 18:54:52   The restaurant at this location now displays a sign which reads 'El Pilon Criollo Restaurant 338-7930'.

I've visited just once so far. The meals served there seemed to revolve primarily around your choice of meat (including steak, pork chops, and ribs that I noticed), rice, and beans. Also included is a small bit of salad and two slices of thick-cut Italian bread. The meals are served in small, medium, and large portion sizes and cost $5, $7, or $9 depending on which size is chosen. I selected the medium and considered my portion to be generous. I noticed that fried chicken was also available, was a popular and affordable choice which could be ordered either with rice and beans or by itself.

It's not clear whether the restaurant is actually related to "Chimo's Sandwich Shop" and I suspect not, so perhaps this (Chimo's Sandwich Shop) restaurant's entry should be removed and replaced, but I'm not sufficiently clear. Initially I did ask for a Cuban-style sandwich and was told that they did serve those, but only earlier in the day. I do not believe that this restaurant actually closes at 5 pm, but I was there near to that time and the restaurant did appear to be selling down its meat selections.

It wasn't precisely clear to me whether El Pilon Criollo is a Puerto Rican restaurant, but I suspect that it might well be. My rice and bean plate had a distinctly Hispanic flavour. I noticed that the staff interacted with the customers equally comfortably in both English and Spanish. —LincolnDeCoursey
