Comic Book Heaven is a winding little comics store where there is much to discover. The owner has a little bit of every comic you could ask for, particularly if they are older than 15 years or so. Cats wander freely along the shelves, and there is usually some great blues playing. A great place to pick up underground comics from the 70s and 80s (sometimes in reprint, though), and the best collection of old Love and Rockets (if you don't mind digging around a bit).

If R. Crumb fell out of the sky, and landed in Rochester, he would land at Comic Book Heaven. The store's emphasis is on the comic book enthusiast. The store carries a moderate selection of toys, DVDs, and posters; no collectible card games. Regular customers may establish an account and pull-list.

Now has a small parking lot (their former location, 1541 East Main Street, did not). Accepts cash (preferred), debit, or credit. Children must be accompanied by an adult. Although it may seem that there are limited hours, buyers can call ahead pretty much any time! It's extremely convenient, as you're not bounded by store hours (as long as you're buying).

2009-01-21 11:49:40   This is my favorite of the comics places in Rochester. The owner is much friendlier than the guy at Empire Comics on Mt. Hope, and new books sell out much less quickly. —OwenThompson

2009-10-11 21:10:42   I agree with OwenThompson. I am relatively new to comics, and I found that Dan (owner of Comic Book Heaven) has been taking the time to explain all kinds of things to me. And he knows me by name and face, though I've only been there a few times. At first I was uncertain about the hours, but I discovered it's *more* convenient for me—because I'm on the pull-list, and he knows I'll be coming to buy what's saved, I just call and pick a time. —DaveSchwartz
