The Williamson native was the gold medalist in the women's super G at the 1994 [wikipedia]Olympics in [wikipedia]Lillehammer, [wikipedia]Norway, and won her last World Cup race a month later in [wikipedia]Vail, [wikipedia]Colorado.

She stunned the ski world by becoming a world champion at age 17 after learning to race at Brantling Ski Slopes, near Williamson.

She competed in three Olympics and was inducted into the U.S. [wikipedia]National Ski Hall of Fame in 2004. She won six national championships.
