2010-07-26 11:26:01   Over the weekend I visited and tried a couple of cupcakes. They were down to vanilla and red velvet cupcakes, so we got one of each. The way it is setup is that you order each component (cupcake, filling, frosting) and they assemble it in front of you. The red velvet was outstanding, as was the vanilla frosting (on the sweeter side). The chocolate ganache filling was also well done. Unfortunately if you've been to Sugar Mountain you are bound to have high expectations, and it didn't quite meet those..but I hope they do well and stay in business. —JohnBarry

2010-07-30 21:07:33   I do not like the cupcakes from this store. They have a distinctive not from scratch taste. I found the look of the cupcake sloppy due to the fact that the line was so long they were throwing them together. The cupcakes were dry and the frosting was too sweet. Plus the fact that they only had three choices for a cake - chocolate, vanilla and red velvet. I'll stick to making my own and from scratch too. —luv2sew

2010-08-09 14:10:57   My daughters could not contain their excitement when they discovered that a cupcakery opened near their dentist's office. Sadly, as a reward for a good check up, I got them cupcakes. Whether or not the cupcakes were made from scratch really wasn't an issue. Having a mother with an award-winning cake business, I can tell you that many great cakes start with Betty Crocker. The key is not to overcook the cake and to freeze cake not being served that day. Dollop's cupcakes taste both overcooked and stale. We tried the chocolate, cream cheese and strawberry frostings. I found the frostings tastier than the cupcakes, but overly sweet. The fillings didn't impress me much either. The cupcake assembler makes a small hole in the top of the cupcake and dumps a little filling in. The result is a dry cupcake with a single glob of filling towards the top, coated with frosting. My girls quite enjoyed their cupcakes - or at least the tops of their cupcakes. After eating the topping, frosting and filling, they left the cupcake bottoms behind. The price of the cupcake with upgrades is comparable to a sundae at Cold Stone Creamery. Frankly, for the money, Cold Stone is much more delicious.

The next time I want to get a special treat with my girls, I think I will make a whole batch of cupcakes and let them decorate them as they please. It would be less expensive, far tastier and way more fun. —ChristineH

2010-08-18 22:11:23   Went here after reading all the press preceding their opening. Unfortunately, the press led to high expectations which weren't fulfilled. Essentially a take out format, it was loud to the point we couldn't hear the server, crowded because 6-8 people fill the front of the store. The format (ala Cold Stone or Maggie Moos) translated to cupcakes is unique and if executed well would be a hit. Sadly, this lacked execution. While many cupcake flavors were advertised on the board, only 2 were available (to be found out only after ordering). The service was hurried and sloppy — the server dropped a cupcake on the floor in the haste to move on to the next order. Further, the cupcakes were either not very unique in taste or lacked any distinctive flavoring. For a business open less than a month, the lack of preparation and execution showed. —luvmywine

2010-10-10 21:50:37   I just went to Dollop over the weekend, THe pumpkin cupcakes were so moist and delicious! My kids loved getting to choose their frostfings and toppings. The staff was very friendly and patient and the cupcakes looked great. I got the salted caramel chocolate pretzel and it was amazing. Maybe instead of bashing new struggling businesses you should all get a life and go get Wegmans cheap whipped cream topped cupcakes. This is a new and innovative idea and we need more ideas and risk takers like this in ROchester. —katiehandz
