The East End is a downtown neighborhood so named because it is centered on East Avenue from Main Street to Alexander. It is Rochester's entertainment district, characterized by its vibrant nightlife. The East End contains numerous bars, clubs, and restaurants, as well as some cultural offerings. As you can imagine, finding a parking spot in the area can be difficult on weekends.
The neighborhood is often split into two areas with their own distinct flavors. The Lower East End, located to the east of the Inner Loop, contains the busiest bars and clubs. The area is pretty much dead most of the time, with the exception of Thursday, Friday, and Saturday nights, when it is noisy and packed to overflowing. The Upper East End, west of the Inner Loop, is more concentrated on sit-down cafes and restaurants and boasts many high-end apartments, ranging from lofts to vintage to new construction. The Eastman School of Music, Rochester Contemporary Art Center, and Little Theatre are located here as well.
Other hot spots within walking distance include the Park Ave area, the Neighborhood of the Arts, and Monroe Village. The South Wedge is a short bike ride.

2012-07-05 00:28:57 If anyone's wondering about that place Wall Street, apparently he opened on St. Patrick's Day 2012 without his liquor license and is currently being punished. Hope it reopens - I hate seeing empty storefronts, especially in an active district. —EileenF
