Fun

Gaming

I am into most forms of gaming. I have run and participated in almost a decade worth of LARP's. I own most [wikipedia]classic consoles and a couple of rare ones.

Parties

I host and plan all sorts of parties around Rochester. Most of them are geeky and sci-fi themed in some manor or another.

I also go to every [WWW]Candy Ball event in Brooklyn, NY.

2008-08-21 20:22:46   Generally speaking, the best way to add an external image is to save it from the other place (after, of course, verifying that the maneuver is compatible with the CC by-sa license, etc, etc) and then upload it to RocWiki. We handle all of our image serving locally. It cuts down on broken image links, and also ensures that we aren't stealing someone else's bandwidth. :-) —Users/RyanTucker

2008-09-04 23:08:31   If it's from flickr, wikipedia, or another major repository, there will often be licensing information available (e.g. the "Some rights reserved" link on [WWW]this photo or the "All rights reserved" on [WWW]this one). If the license fits with the [WWW]one we're using, then the photo is OK. Interestingly, neither of those photos would be OK — the second because all rights are reserved, the first because one of the conditions of the license (non-commercial use only) is more restrictive than the license RocWiki is using. In that case, asking permission of the owner of the photo is the way to go. For an example of a photo that would be automatically OK, [WWW]this one from Wikipedia has a license that would be compatible with the RocWiki license.

A mention of the licensing of the photo and/or a link to where it came from would always be appreciated in the caption for future reference... additionally, if permission is granted by the owner of the photo, make sure they realize the implications of such (like all other RocWiki content, it gets relicensed with the license we're using) and give 'em props in the caption.

This stuff is more simple nowadays than it used to be, but it's still a pain in the you-betcha. —Users/RyanTucker

2011-04-04 02:26:59   2010-04-16: RocWiki surpassed 100,000 edits with [WWW]revision 38 of Lori's Natural Foods; alas, the Wiki is still not perfect. I take the beauty of chaos over ugly perfection? Anybody? —EugeneCain

2011-06-04 23:15:25   Eugene-sorry for the delay in responding. I've been phenomenally busy. I'll make a link on the Front Page for "Uniquely Rochester" and you can link items there. Yes coffee...get me on FB to arrange —PeteB

"That is the greatest thing I've heard all day."

"This is the greatest thing ever! Now I don't feel like a schmuck when I don't update Rocwiki!" —EileenF

2012-04-01 21:03:40   Unbanned as per their request. Eugene wishes to give Golden Boys a "glowing review." If they ever want to be banned again they will have to ask another admin because this is just silly. —EileenF
