The variety of Asian cuisine is extensive for such a small restaurant, the staff are friendly and inviting and the food and flavors are exceptional. Note to food snobs: Have you checked their prices? If you want filet mignon then go to an expensive steak/slaughter house. --["RichieGuy"]
 ------
2008-02-24 22:22:28 nbsp In defense of my fellow "meat eating food snobs", I must point out that there is quite a sizeable range between the meat served at Flavor of Asia and filet mignon and "we - the meat lovers" do know not to expect the latter. This is going to sound crazy but there exist plenty of standards between mediocrity and excellence.

Citing the low prices as an excuse for the poor quality of meat at this restaurant shows a lack of understanding about meat in general. Believe it or not, you don't need filet mignon to put out a quality non vegetarian dish. Just ask any of the good Asian restaurants.

Either way, please understand that those who actually eat meat have a better idea of what is good and what is not for the price on the menu. And there is no need to adopt such a snooty tone when addressing those who eat meat - especially when the one adopting the tone has chosen not to engage in that choice. --["OneLove"]
 ------
2008-06-24 23:31:09 nbsp I WOULD RECOMMEND THIS restaurant!!!!! The service was great, and the food was good too. I had the pho and the meat in it was perfectly cooked. I i also liked the steamed leak and shrimp dumplings and the shu-mai. My friend also enjoyed the rice roles he said it was a perfect blend of flavor. After i had the mango sticky rice. The owner came out and mingled with us. although i have only been here 3 times. --["Users/bcto69"]
 ------
2008-06-25 21:51:08 nbsp I've always enjoyed this restaurant. If you are a vegetarian, then Flavors of Asia is definitely worth checking out because they make awesome tofu dishes. Try the turnip cakes and vermicelli bowl with fried tofu. Service is friendly and quick. This is one of our favorite restaurants that we frequent 1-3 times per month. --["Users/TrishHeckmann"]
 ------
2009-02-28 08:54:50 nbsp My fiance and I have eaten food from here, but until last night, we had never eaten inside. The food was outstanding, as always, and our server (who was tasked with working the entire dining area) made us feel like the only customer he had. That's pretty incredible seeing that it was Friday night and the room was nearly full. I recommend the hot and sour soup, the walnut shrimp dish and lots of rice. It's so good! --["Users/BatGuano"]
 ------
2009-04-12 13:40:18 nbsp I have always been impressed with this restaurant, based on my 3-ish visits. The portion size has been large and the quality high as well. Today we were very happy with our Dim Sum choices --- chinese greens with garlic (large portion perfectly sauteed for $3.50), turnip cake with egg, and leek/shrimp eggroll.

The service has always been top-notch as well --- the waiters have always been friendly and attentive. --["Users/LePetitChien"]
 ------
2009-04-15 19:50:29 nbsp vermicelli bowl with chicken and extra cilentro!!! yum! --["Users/NancyOdonnell"]
 ------
2009-05-28 14:10:47 nbsp i love this restaurant! great variety of different asian cuisines, although their vietnamese is highly superb! considerate, attentive, and friendly staff, fun little restaurant to be in. i have been coming here ever since they opened! :) --["Users/R"]
 ------
2009-08-26 00:06:01 nbsp My wife and I go here so much we should just get a timeshare. It was quite good, though the pho at SEA is better in my opinion, as it's a little bit more spiced and fragrant and has more meat in it and a varied selection of meat at that.

The staff is super friendly, prices very reasonable and it's a nice little joint. I'll definitely be back to try some of the other offerings on the menu. --["Users/AlexD1234"]
 ------
 2009-10-26 19:58:07 nbsp best fried tofu!!! --["Users/NipsyRussell"]
 ------
2009-12-31 12:10:22 nbsp Best place for Asian in the city. Their vegetable version of pho is very tasty, the thai masauman and panang vegetable dishes are very good and the sesame tofu is popular with guests that I bring. --["Users/BrianM"]
 ------
2010-06-12 15:29:03 nbsp This place is one of the tastiest restaurants for vegetarian Asian cuisine. Vegetarian options never seem like an afterthought, and the servers are very knowledgeable about the menu items. I would recommend the greens with garlic sauce. --["Users/puddleofsick"]
 ------
2010-07-01 17:53:01 nbsp BEST CHINESE IN THE CITY- and I should know... I'm Asian. We love the Pho Ga and the turnip with egg and scallions - also the chicken pad thai. The staff are very friendly and the quality and quantity is outstanding value. Always a great meal to go or to eat in! --["Users/ColinCoffey"]
 ------
2010-10-11 08:29:09 nbsp First visit last night. Restaurant, table, dishes and utensils were extremely squeaky clean and the server was friendly and attentive. The menu has Chinese, Vietnamese and Thai fare. Ordered the Pho Ga. The basil, sprouts and lime accompaniments were among the freshest I've ever seen, the chicken pieces were very nice and the soup was tasty. It's not my favorite pho ga in Rochester so far, as I prefer pho ga from Pho Duong Dong and SEA restaurants. But out of respect to this restaurant, I should explain that my pho taste preference is for southern Saigon style pho nam over the northern Hanoi style pho bac and although the pho at this restaurant is not definitively northern and perhaps more of a mish mosh of the 2 styles, the other 2 restaurants have more southern styled pho. The soup here was oilier, less clarified, and the noodles were wider and shorter rice sticks as opposed to the thinner and longer rice noodles which are what I've found in the majority of the pho noodle soups that I have enjoyed. However, I will definitely be going back to try other items on their menu. My husband ordered the Bun Ga (lemon grass chicken vermicelli bowl) and he enjoyed it thoroughly. --["Users/KairakuShugisha"]
 ------
2010-11-24 19:00:22 nbsp Really enjoy this place. Pho is better at SEA but the rice dishes here are great. Love the little Dim Sum menu tucked on the back page - an order of Sesame Balls is a great way to end a meal. Super friendly - will remember your face and your favorite dish even if you are only an occasional customer. --["Users/CamDube"]
 ------
2011-01-31 10:29:44 nbsp One of our favorite local restaurants, we've been returning for years. Plenty of "regulars", which speaks to the quality of the food. Service is always friendly. Our favorites include the vermicelli bowl, pad thai, and Vietnamese steamed rice rolls. Try the turnip and egg cakes. --["Users/JasonS"]
 ------
2011-03-07 13:29:04 nbsp My husband and I regularly eat here or get take out since we live only a couple blocks away. The food is amazing!!!! We have NEVER had a bad dish here. It is also really affordable as well, we usually never spend over $30 and we get 2-3 dim sum, noodle bowls or pho and we have also tried their rice dishes. Great food, friendly people, reasonable prices...what more could you want?!? We have never had any issues with their meat, and all the veggies are extremely fresh. The beef that I get in the pho soup is very tender and the chicken and pork in the noodle bowls is always good. Eat here you wont regret it! --["Users/MinaLoy"]
 ------
2011-05-17 19:34:57 nbsp After being away from Flavors of Asia for a few months, we came back and had a wonderful experience (as always). A familiar face has joined. Rosie who used to work at Mings II has moved back and is now serving over at FOA. As always, the food and the service are amazing, along with fresh flowers on the tables, and the most amazing orchid plant and kumquat tree I've seen since living in Florida.

Thank you for always making our experience lovely. The Vietnamese soups are great, but our favorite items are the sesame balls, and the scallion and shrimp dumplings. --["Users/suziwillpower"]
 ------
2011-05-19 19:18:11 nbsp i'm a huge fan of their pho- it's the ultimate rainy/snowy day comfort food! i usually get takeout, but when i've eaten there, the service has been very good. definitely worth checking out --["Users/portia356"]
 ------
2011-06-20 09:46:08 nbsp delicous! and if you go often enough, they remember you! not cheap but huge portions!

 --["Users/gxb0483"]
 ------

https://rocwiki.org/Flavors_of_Asia/Commentshttps://rocwiki.org/Flavors_of_Asia/Comments?action=diff&version1=0&version2=1&ts=1254341344Flavors of Asia/Comments2009-09-30T20:09:04Zpetebcreated
Differences for Flavors of Asia/Comments

Deletions are marked with - .

 Additions are marked with +.

Line 1:

Line 1:

This page is for archiving comments prior to 2008 for ["Flavors of Asia"]

2005-11-12 15:35:32 nbsp Great restaurant. Sadly, this is average Chinese food (at best), dressed in a fancy logo. --["WegmansFiend"]
 ------
2007-05-11 00:27:01 nbsp I have tried a few dishes here. Mostly, they left much to be desired.

The beef they use in their pho is of a very cheap quality. Their scallion pancakes were dense, heavy and greasy - they are supposed to be lighter and flaky. I also tried a Thai chicken dish. The chicken looked rather suspect...almost as if it was overcooked?

On a positive note, I tried one of their Chinese beef dishes and the sauce was quite good. Sadly, the beef was still crappy.

I have only been here twice so these might be isolated incidents. --["OneLove"]
 ------
2007-10-03 16:57:10 nbsp It's a Vietnamese family restaurant, kind of small, so I would not necessarily trust their "chinese" part of the menu. I like their Pho with beef (as opposed to chicken version), and the fresh shrimp rolls - those are excellent! The scallion pancakes are pretty bad, I agree. --["XenonIce"]
 ------
2007-12-30 17:01:22 nbsp We're never unhappy when we go here. The menu is varied with some Dim Sum, some Chinese, Vietnamese, and Thai. I guess with such a wide variety there are bound to be a couple things on the list that might not be up to par. We tend to do a little Dim Sum as an appetizer, and then go for Vietnamese or Thai for the meal. We've enjoyed the Pho but can't claim to be Pho experts. We do like all the varieties of the Bun (noodle salad) and the rice dishes (Com) are always good too. Service has always been pleasant, no complaints there. This is a nice choice for a group where not everyone wants the same thing, or some in the group are not as adventurous, they can stick to the familiar Chinese dishes, and others will have varied options. --["DottieHoffmann"]
 ------
