Talk page for Francis Bellamy

2006-04-20 22:40:11   I will be blunt: this page is utter crap. It regurgitates the poorly supported and absurdly tendentious arguments of Rex Curry, apparently a narcissistic lawyer-turned-historian (see his 'book' [WWW]http://rexcurry.net/book1a1contents-pledge.html ) This page is a summary of Curry's poor research and repeats several of his fallacious arguments (for instance, the claim that the US pledge is bad because it allegedly inspired the Nazi pledge is a total non sequitur). I'll give the original poster a chance to have their say before adding strictly factual information from more, uh, "reliable" sources than an internet crackpot. Wikipedia ([WWW]http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Francis_Bellamy) makes no mention of this author on the main page, and the discussion page is revealing ([WWW]http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Talk:Francis_Bellamy). 'Professor Rex Curry' teaches at a Florida Community College and has no training in history ([WWW]http://www.hccfl.edu/facultyinfo/ercurry/). Money quotes from Mr. Curry's website: "This site is the online archive of the celebrity historian who made the astounding discovery..." (emphasis added) "This website exposed the many ways that the USA is a socialistic police state and how the Bellamy Boys share the blame" ([WWW]http://rexcurry.net/index2.html).

2006-04-20 23:40:26   Cool. I'd like to see what update/changes/corrections you go for. I would warn against treating anything on Wikipedia as 'reliable' though... —FarMcKon

2006-04-20 23:43:52   I suppose I don't share your skepticism of Wikipedia- on every contested page I've visited (admittedly only a few), the administrative cabal has acted sanely and objectively. Is there a revision history available on rocwiki? (ie, was there a prior version of this page or was it a new addition?) —JonRobins

2006-04-20 23:59:24   Revision history is indeed available. This is a newly created page within the last few days. I think (for Rocwiki) the best thing is to link to the wikipedia article, and remove a lot of what is already duplicated there. I am skeptical of ALL wiki's. —FarMcKon

2006-04-21 12:15:04   Jon Robins, why don't your revise the article? Also, if you want to see a revision history, hit the "info" tab. —RottenChester

2006-04-21 17:10:32   Already working on the revision; the purpose of this page was to give the (unregistered) original poster a chance to respond. —JonRobins

2006-12-15 22:36:33   Wow - a swastika, a blink tag, and an 80+ character file name. It's a wacko trifecta! —RottenChester
