2007-07-12 14:02:59   I added Quinlan's pub and the page has http://www.rocwiki.org/Quinlan%27s_Pub
and when I search for quinlan it comes up empty.
I put them in because they now have open wireless
How does one fix that besides putting in a new page?
the apostrophe is not legal in the names? etc. I can add them again under their other name, K J Quinlan Pub and Brew, if needed without the apostrophe. Answer to general questions about rochester previous comment: inforochester.com may help —JackGreenky

2007-07-12 19:00:12   The search feature on this site is a little idiosyncratic and sometimes doesn't return results with punctuation. However, if you search for Quinlan's on Google, you'll find that the first link is the page you made on RocWiki. You'll also find that the Wifi Hotspots and Pubs/Bars pages link to it, so you're all set. —DaveMahon

2007-07-12 20:01:30   The search issue is a known issue and we're working on it. One interim solution is to rename the page (rename is one of the buttons on the edit page) to the "real" name. Rename leaves the old page as a redirect so no links are broken. —RottenChester

2007-09-26 14:25:42   Content on the Front Page and Explore should specifically and explicitly be about Rochester. 2taste.com is a review site for Rochester restaurants, as is the D&C link.

Spirits Review discusses the relative qualities of myriad spirits and your adventures in finding and trying them. If local spirits appear on there (I didn't check all that hard), they certainly aren't the primary focus of the site.

As such, the site certainly deserves links from this wiki, just not on the front page. You'll find links off of the Blogs page and the Commercial [web sites] pages. —DaveMahon

2008-02-28 00:31:53   I think that Organizations should be a subject heading, on par with services, etc. rather than under Living. Related note, there is no clear location for organizations that are not spiritual or non-profit as far as I can tell. —MantraSix

2008-05-01 18:06:31   I went back and forth on that a lot. It's useful to have meeting reminders near the top, but it is nice to emphasize the various things to be done in town. I'm open to changing it though. Anybody else have a strong opinion one way or the other? —DaveMahon

2008-09-07 09:33:55   From August 6 through September 5, the following links off the Front Page got at least 100 clicks: Jobs, Apartments, Shopping, Restaurants, Famous Residents, Summer Guide, Events Board, People.

From June 23 through September 6, the following links off the Front Page got 0 clicks: Farm Markets, Farmers' Markets, Pharmacies, Rocwiki, Want to help (the latter two are in the intro paragraph at the top of the page) —DaveMahon

2008-09-07 10:35:38   I suspect folks get to the learn more, click through and don't need the welcome your help. Does the Want To Help page get many hits from the other link-ins Wiki Community and Wiki Community/RocWiki in the Classroom? I just did some click throughs myself so the count will be of next time.

I suspect that a lot of newcomers to the site come mostly via search engine hits or external links to one of our pages. A great feature would be to recognize that and automatically add a button link to the Welcome Your Help page. Is there any tweakable functionality around the USerName - NewUSer Login distinction at the top of page. One thought would be to have a conditional FrontPage for never-been-seen users, returning users (cookie only), and logged in (cookie) users.
