2006-11-13 22:17:50   I went for the first time in September and have been back 4 times. One visit some of the entrees were overcooked but it was better the last time my wife and I went. The Lemon Artichoke soup is fantastic. A good place to go to hear a conversation with people at your table. Some Saturday nights they have live music.ScottHendler

2007-03-23 07:56:49   Service leaves ALOT to be desired here. Went with a party of 4 most recently and we were abandoned by our server. Took about 20 mins from the time she said she would bring our check, until we actually got it. Food is just ok. —KimBee

2007-07-10 15:07:31   I've only been for breakfast, but the food is good. The service is lacking, but in their defense, they've been super busy every time I've eaten there. Be warned though, the last time I went I had my credit card number stolen by a staff member who was "double swiping" cards and then selling the numbers!!! —RocGirl

2007-07-20 12:30:27   I have never been disappointed here. The salads are great, the entrees are well prepared, the soups are fantastic. —ElaineRobinson

2007-08-04 18:28:29   Back in March of this year, my mother and I attended high tea. Just last week, my bank alerted me to several fraudulent transactions that had been made with my debit card numbers. The bank was able to trace the compromise back to Hicks and McCarthy. So, RocGirl, you're not alone! It happened to me, too. —HeidiWinfield

2007-08-30 11:11:06   This is Pittsfords version of a diner, this is not upscale.

The prices are VERY cheap and the food is good. The servers are all St John Fisher and Nazareth students who mostly do a good job. It is a great place for breakfast or brunch on a Saturday or Sunday in a pleasant atmosphere. —MrRochester

2007-09-20 17:21:03   I have been in email contact with the owner, Robert Bryant, who stated he was unaware I'd called them before to make them aware of this situation. I returned his email & informed him he is welcome to post a comment here about the concerns noted by people in the notes above. Informed him we will not remove their comments —PeteB

2007-11-10 18:33:43   My Mom has been a patron here for years; it was one of her favorite places. With relatives in town, we were a party of 9 in Sep. 07. Had a very surly waitress. My mother ordered the meatloaf. It came in a sauce that she found spicy. She asked for a different entree. The waitress was rude to my Mom and said that she and the rest of the staff don't find it spicy. Wish she knew how much my mother spent there over the past decade! I don't think any of us will be going back. —AmyLa

2008-03-17 12:35:24   Great location and good service but the food was terrible. On a sunday afternoon at 1:00, the restaurant wasn't terribly busy. The cappucino was lukewarm and weak. I ordered the veg. frittata and was served an omelette with vegetables on it. In their recent past, the veggies had been nuked and thrown into a skillet with plenty of grease. In short, the food was incredibly bad. The waitress was wonderful and I felt awful for her but we will NEVER go back. —SmitaRao

2008-03-22 22:32:15   As a resident of Pittsford, I wish I could say I like this place. I have had some unpleasant experiences there and will not be returning. A friend of mine went with her kids, who were 18 months and 3 years old at the time the baby made a mess on the floor and the manager asked the mother to pick up the food! the manager also asked her if she would let her child do this at home. If they hadn't already ordered they would have all gotten up and left, they had a pretty big party. RUDE STAFF, I don't really care if you are Naz or Fisher student, you should really know better and have manners, IMO! I have also told other friends with kids not to eat here. b/c they aren't kid friendly. Go to the Coal tower instead. —JenniferWynne

2008-03-23 11:54:53   I've been here with my kids, now 5 and 7, several times, and never had an issue with the servers at all. They were fine. The food was also OK, but really nothing to write home about.

In regards to the manager's comments in the previous post... honestly, if the child is making a mess on the floor, the parent *should* be picking it up. THAT is good manners, as there ate limits to what the waitstaff should be expected to do. Heck, if the kids are throwing food on the floor, they should have been taken outside before it got to the point where it was noticeable. Been there, done that, got the t-shirt. Sometimes, having to leave to spare the other patrons and the staff is just part of being a good parent. —RichMulvey

2008-03-26 22:03:13   Rick Mulvey, Your point is taken, but I still think that it's bad taste that a manger is rude to a patron. Rude is rude, I think that when you approach an individual you use a calm warm voice, no reason to be condescending. I think that most people have enough common sense to pick the mess up that their child is making and from what I understand my friend had no problem with cleaning up the mess. I have 2 kids and one more on the way and have never been treated as my friend was. Hicks and McCarthy was much better back in the late 80's- early 90's. —JenniferWynne

2008-08-08 20:40:04   I took out of town guests for lunch and we had a good experience. Our waitress was friendly, the food was good. I have no complaints. —ShawnaLusk

2009-01-25 09:47:01   Went with my wife and 2-year old and 7-month old for breakfast on 1/24. Got seated fairly quickly, and that's the last time "quickly" or even "promptly" will be used in this review. Our server was a 60-year old retiree who should get out of the server business. She took forever with everything and only game back to bring our food and take it away. I had one cup of coffee with breakfast... ONE! Never asked if I wanted a refill. When she brought the check, I practically threw my card at her before she could walk away. It was busy, but is that now an excuse for bad service? If she had acknowledged how busy they were and apologized for the crappy service that would have almost made it OK. The food was pretty good, and I've had many business meetings there in the morning with good service. But this particular visit was really blah. —DavidGottfried

2009-05-10 19:30:05   We've always had good experiences here. I've brought out of town guests here and always been pleased. Their luncheon chicken caesar wrap is excellent! Once they had a creamy chicken and rice soup that was awesome. The lobster ravioli and pasta bolognese are excellent. Service is hit and miss - there's a young guy that worked there, short blond hair - he was good, not sure if he's still there. Prices are reasonable. We'll keep going back! —DGandDJ

2009-10-23 10:03:23   I used to work here in high school as an after school job. If nothing has changed, it's not a clean place. One example of this, they used to re-use the bread...so if a table didn't eat all the bread from their basket, they would combine it with other uneaten breads to give to a new table. I was given a free meal every shift, and I was usually so disgusted with the back room and prep stations that I brought my own. YUCK. —Leisel
