Arguably, when most people think of "Jefferson Road" proper, they are referring to the section that stretches from Ballantyne Bridge to Winton Road. Shoppers tend to think of the highly commercial and retail segment from Southtown Plaza east to Frontier Commons.
The Town of Pittsford is responsible for the name split between West Jefferson and East Jefferson on either side of Pittsford's Main Street.
Route 252
New York State Route 252 runs from Chili to the Ballantine Bridge under various names. It then carries the name Jefferson Road from its intersection with Scottsville Road, near RIT, until it becomes West Jefferson Road at Winton Road and then continues to South Main Street in Pittsford.

Route 96
At South Main Street in Pittsford, Jefferson picks up the name East Jefferson Road and the NY Route 96 designation. As it enters Bushnell's Basin it also picks up the designation Pittsford Victor Road and turns south towards Eastview Mall. The Jefferson designation ends at the intersection of Route 96 and I-490 before leaving Monroe County.
