Ever. NPR restaurant reviewers have said it was their favorite steak sandwich in the entire country (take that Philadelphia). Let me just say, if there was ever a reason to eat a cow, this sandwich would be it. If you are hungry, avoid the temptation of ordering fries or onion rings and just order two sandwiches. Trust me (plus their onion rings were not that great). You can sit at the counter and order or you can order at the counter and sit in a booth. Supposedly, it is really busy in the summer. The decor and atmosphere is like a 1950s truck stop. The people at the counter are incredibly friendly. I am not sure how tipping works, because it isn't table service in the traditional sense, but we left the standard 15% anyway. The food here is good enough that if in the future I am ever driving on the ["Thruway"], I will make the stop. --["MicahMilinovich"]

 ------
2005-10-24 13:44:21 nbsp I should've gotten the steak sandwich. BBQ was very average, with an abominable sauce. --["JonRobins"]

 ------
2005-10-25 03:46:27 nbsp I love the sign that says "WE CUT AND GRIND OUR OWN BEEF". Sounds like they have cattle in the backyard... --["TomKaminski"]
 ------
2005-10-26 14:34:17 nbsp I think 20% is standard these days, although you're probably right at 15% for that kind of service. --["ChrisMaj"]
 ------
2005-11-11 06:29:51 nbsp It's the burgers, not the steak sandwiches, that make the trip to ["Charlotte"] (I like "just north of Rochester" comment in the RoadFood critique) worthwhile. Please don't confuse LDR's steak with a cheesesteak from Philly; it's an apples & oranges comparo. --["BenKenobe"]
 ------
2006-01-05 13:16:36 nbsp The LDR Char Pit has been in business since the mid 40's and has the BEST ever steak sandwich, probably in the US. Memorabilia from the Charlotte area including part of an old chain that once blocked access to the Genesee River adorn the walls. --["RickUrwin"]
 ------
2006-04-03 12:53:48 nbsp I have to say that the steak sand is really basic, but good. The BBQ sauce is unlike any I've ever tasted - it reminded me of Dorothy Lynch Salad Dressing, if you've ever had it. --["RottenChester"]
 ------
 2006-09-17 05:58:39 nbsp Tasty. --["DanielMiner"]
 ------
2007-02-04 23:32:34 nbsp The steak sandwich rules it-I eat at least one per week to help keep me strong --["KenBoasi"]
