Currently, construction has torn up several sections closer to downtown, mostly to help smooth the rough ride, but it gets smoother the closer you get to the lake. The #1 bus runs about every 15 minutes, which is the most frequent schedule of any bus route in the city. Traveling along Lake Avenue gives you one of the best cross-sections of city life.
