Lake Avenue is an noteworthy route in Rochester connecting the city with Charlotte and Ontario Beach Park. The avenue starts just out of downtown, running north from the end of State Street at the intersection of Lyell Avenue. It continues all the way north to Ontario Beach Park at Lake Ontario where the road makes a 90 degree left turn and becomes Beach Avenue.

It's also probably one of the busiest streets in town. There's two lanes in each direction, with a middle left-turn-only lane in a number of places. Currently, construction has torn up several sections closer to downtown, mostly to help smooth the rough ride, but it gets smoother the closer you get to the lake. The #1 bus runs about every 15 minutes, which is the most frequent schedule of any bus route in the city. Traveling along Lake Avenue gives you one of the best cross-sections of city life.
