This was only my second time in the store so I asked the cashier if they sold ground beef. She pointed me to the deli counter and I asked the guys working on a sandwich if they had any ground beef. After a look around they said that, unfortunately, they didn't. Very well, I told them, I'll just run over to Wegmans. I thanked them and left. I hopped in my car and started to call the fiance to tell her I was going to have to run to Wegmans and that I would be a little longer. Next thing I know, the owner comes around the corner and asks me what I was asking for. I told him just enough ground beef for two burgers. He apologized that the workers didn't realize they had ground beef in the back and he said he would pound out a couple burgers for me. It was a simple act of kindness and it was much appreciated. It's unfortunately a rarity these days to go to a place that works so hard for your business. After reading the comments here, such service is par for the course at Mise en Place. I had an excellent New York Strip with broccoli; one of our party asked what other vegetables were available and they offered brussels sprout. From our experience as children we flatly rejected this suggestion, so they said "I'll tell you what, we make them a certain way that you might like, how about we make you a small side dish just to try?" We did, and they were very tasty. + + I went back today for lunch and had an open-faced meatloaf sandwich with a mushroom glaze. It was outstanding - moist and delicious. He is all about being in the service business and giving people what they want, ie customizing dishes to please customers. And he is willing to go find any obscure ingredient you'd like to order. He is thinking of opening a wine store next door so you can have wine with your meal and take home the rest of the bottle. As of now, you can choose any beverage out of the beverage cooler in the store to drink with your meal. You can also add anything sold in the store to your meal. He said, if someone doesn't like any of the soups offered for dinner, he has no problem heating up a canned soup from the store if that's what someone wants. He also wants to mimic Fresh Direct, and deliver groceries and prepared meals. The food was also out of this world. The scallops were the best we ever had, the steak was on par with Black and Blue, the flourless chocolate cake with white chocolate cream was amazing. The big difference between Mis En Place and Wegmans/Tops (which everything is compared to) is that no matter what Subaru Wagon you drive, to what Wegmans or Tops you shop at, you cannot get there, make your purchase and get back home with the rotisserie chicken still piping hot.
