I started eating there in 2007, long before Anthony Bourdain blew it up on his show, No Reservations. In Bourdain's purview, Los Hermanos is the best place in all of NYC to get authentic Mexican food, and he was right. He's still right. + + After moving back to Rochester in 2012, I was left disappointed by Monte Alban. The food was bland by comparison, the tortillas were prone to ripping, and I would often discover my burrito would be mostly water, as evidenced by the puddle in my takeout container. The Irondequoit location often mixes up orders, or does not include everything you've ordered in your takeout bag. Itacate does a better job, IMHO. La Casa USED to be my local favorite, until the two co-owners were deported under mysterious circumstances and the menu changed dramatically. The only one that really stands out as a leader in our area is La Reyna de México Restaurant, all the way out in Geneva, NY. --["Users/JustinSchmidt"]

It might actually surprise some people that Mexican food is rarely very spicy, and is in fact quite complex in the flavors of it's components, such as in that of Molé. Even an ominous sounding dish like Chilé Relleños is, in fact, quite mild. It's really only "Texican" food that is blindingly hot (mostly to mask the lousy quality), and this place does NOT offer that type of cuisine. Yes, if you feel the need to mask the flavor of the food with some idiotic hot sauce, they'll bring a bottle to your table. + + I've frankly never had a meal that disappointed, even when ordering the lunch specials, and the food always comes quickly. The prices are good, as well. For those who have experienced 'real' Mexican food in either Mexico or the Southeast U.S., you'll probably expect this place to be, if not dirty, then at least worn at the edges. Luckily, this is that rarest of all places, an authentic Mexican restaurant that is affordable, clean, and quick. Went to the Ridge Road location last night (Sunday) for dinner and the hostess greeted us at the door and we were seated immediately. Their margaritas are good and relatively cheap - less than $5! We ordered the Cowboy fajitas and a combo plate to share - chicken and beef were tender and they didn't skimp on the amount of shrimp in the fajitas. He neglected to see how we were doing during our meal, and verbally told us the price for our meal at the end rather than giving us a bill. I recommended she make the hike to the great north, Irondequoit, to try this place and she did. She and her family LOVE it. Feels it's home like for her. Plus it's a GREAT deal for a family of five. That said, I am a family of two and this is one of our very favorite restaurants. First, because it is important, the place is an amazing value. Okay, I take that back. That's not first. I wouldn't eat there a second time if it wasn't really good food. Starting again, First - it's great food. I love the fajita chicken quesadilla. And the quacamole is very good. I am amazed when people ruin quac but it happens, too often. They start you out with chips and red salsa. But ask for the salsa verde or the really hot salsa and they will bring that out for you. I will say, no one can beat a Maria's margarita and this place is no challenge to that institution, but only in the realm of the margarita. The Pancho Special is chicken and shrimp sauteed up with beans and rice and salad, another of my favorites. By the by, they are huge portions and I know I already mentioned it, but it's very REASONABLY priced. (As I write this, I am realizing that this means you all might go and then I might have to wait even longer . . . . and I will cause it's worth the wait but know that I will not be happy about it.) We like it so much that we've driven there through two separate snow storms for dinner there. + My dining companion also loves the food, from the salsas to the fresh tortilla chips to the chile rellenos to the beans, but he loves the service as well. We both highly recommend this place. Not amazing mexican food, but really good for a great price. --["Users/asally"]
