Previously located in the Village Gate, they moved to the new location in May of 2005. What was a nice Greek restaurant has turned into a 24-hour diner that incidentally has some Greek items on the menu. The live music that used to be played has been replaced with generic tunes from the 50's through 70's, likely delivered by some Muzak-esque service. And what was a dark and cozy place to take your significant other for a romantic dinner is now annoyingly bright with lots of reflective surfaces and television sets to provide plenty of distraction. Oh, and unless my memory is playing tricks on me, nearly all the Greek items on the menu now feature higher prices. The food isn't bad, but aside from the Greek items, it's standard diner fare. Don't go there if you're expecting the old Mykonos as you'll probably be disappointed. But do go there if you want something better than most standard diners. It's certainly better than Jay's for late-night eating. —John Passaniti

2006-02-13 16:53:10   I agree with John, the 'old' Mykonos was much more of a 'finer dining' experience compared to the new diner that they are operating. I was also disappointed in the reduced amount of Greek items on their menu. If you are looking for a diner, check it out, but don't mistake it for the 'old' Mykonos! I'm wondering if its new replacement, Feta-Chinni (now closed as of 10/19/07) is comparable experience to the old Mykonos? —RochesterMom

2006-05-22 18:00:26   Great diner style with Greek dishes. Fast service, nice waitstaff, reasonable prices, and great vegetarian selections, too. —BrentIrvine

2006-06-20 18:16:25   Maybe you can't go wrong with Mykonos. You know, if you need a place that has something for everyone kind-of-place. There is lots of available seating, good menu selection and it is in a safe area. I’d say the pricing is reasonable but some would argue that for a “diner” the pricing is high. I say the food is generally better than what you would get in a diner so it weighs out. Disco-Fries are good to share. —RickUrwin

2006-06-21 18:36:30   Very odd places. Both incarnations of Mykonos. A testament to the Rochester's low expectations of Greek cuisine. Disco fries. I think of fat people on the dance floor. LOL. Feta-Chinni. LOL. And you wonder why poeple make fun of Rochester. —JohnPapdopoulos

2006-06-21 19:15:48   Some of us don't wonder Some of us already know... —FarMcKon

2006-06-22 18:36:41   Give up the name of your real Greek place you! :) —RickUrwin

2006-08-21 17:19:44   Gyros are pretty decent. Also recently had a "turbo plate", Mykonos' answer to the garbage plate— I thought it was quite good as well. Note that this is coming from someone who just recently moved to Rochester and has never had a garbage plate from Nick Tahou's for comparison— only homemade versions by my husband. —CatherineConnolly

2006-08-31 12:07:24   I was not very impressed by the food and the neon lights made my head hurt! —EllenKelsey

2006-10-22 14:06:30   Great place for a good meal... Certainly is a downer compared to the old Mykonos in village gate. However, the meat/seafood Greek platters are still great and the same price (for 2-3 people). Souvlaki and gyro platters are delicious. As for the rest of the menu, its exactly identical to the city cafe diner that mykonos replaced. Good burgers, great breakfast... standard diner fare. Definitely recommend the cheesecake! —MichaelPerrone

2006-11-03 16:59:44   Their pancakes are great but I agree it's a wee bit bright. —PeterBoulay

2006-11-08 09:34:44   Why are the Greek dishes priced @ the range of a fine restaurant in village gate? The food quality has taken a dive relative to its previous location. But it is still good. I dont know where else to go for good Greek Food!-OneLove

2006-12-22 15:06:20   Reasonably priced lunch specials. I enjoyed the moussaka/greek salad combo. Impressive selection of deserts. This diner reminds me of the diners I would frequent in NYC\LI area. —MrPhil

2007-01-14 03:35:22   I don't know what everyone on this page is talking about, but the new Mykono's has the best feature any restaurant can possibly offer; open 24 hours a day. There are many people who work at night or are up at night who appreciate the great food, service, and positive and optimistic environment mykono —HectorMalice

2007-01-18 19:28:34   The doors are open 24 hours, but it seems the later it is, the slower the service. I've been in around 2 AM a couple of times, and stood at the front for five minutes without being acknowledged, until I finally gave up and left. —McgMatt

2007-01-25 14:10:30   Had lunch there today and was very dissaspointed. am accustomed to great souvlaki from there, but todays pork was raw in the middle and also the hummus appetizer (I forget the proper name) was bland, dry and the presentation was horrible...like someone dished it out and plopped it on the plate. No olive oil...just an ugly pile. Also the pita seemed to be nuked 'cause it got hard very quickly. I've had this exact meal probably 25 times, mostly at the old location, and was very happy. Not anymore. —BillBartlett

2007-03-23 07:53:31   In my opinion, the food here is really nasty. The breakfasts are served up on a bed of grease and the lunch doesn't fare much better. The desserts are ok. Also, its open all night. —KimBee

2007-07-14 23:50:28   sadly the wonderful old Mykonos in Village Gate is gone and the diner in Winton Place is just not for me. —RalphMeranto

2007-08-05 20:11:10   I never ate at the old Mykonos, so I can't speak to that one (and the changes, whether they be good or bad) As for the current restaurant, the food and prices aren't bad. I especially like the gyros and homemade desserts (made on the premise) The wait staff is friendly. I ate breakfast there once and it was OK, but nothing to rave about. Good location, easy to get in and out of off of Winton or Brighton-Henrietta Townline Road. —EricArdis

2007-09-05 14:51:40   The new Mykonos is the ubiquitous diner. Those from Long Island (who for some reason are in love with diners) will feel at home. This place reminds me of every diner I have ever been to on Sunrise Highway. The food is ok and makes for a great place to go at 2am. —SteveVogt

2007-11-23 09:22:41   We went here for breakfast yesterday (on Thanksgiving) and all five of us really enjoyed our food. My boyfriend's "light" breakfast of 2 eggs actually came with hashbrowns and sausage, taking up a huge plate! Our server was super nice, especially considering it was a holiday. He got a special substitution for my picky mom and brought out pots of coffee and hot water for tea. And yes, we left a very generous tip!! —SaraChristine

2007-11-26 10:29:29   When it was at the Village Gate Mykonos was a great restaurant. Now it is just another diner. Yeah, that's what Rochester needs. It's a shame that a they became so successful that they lost sight of what caused their success in the first place. Best wishes to them, but I will not be going back. —JackPorcello

2007-12-09 16:47:18   Generic diner that lost value when they took out a lot of their greek items and cut back their hours. In the Henrietta area, it's probably worth going to and some of the dishes are pretty good. Still, there are lots of better diners on Park and Monroe that put this place to shame. —NoahLeaf

2008-02-06 09:43:16   I enjoyed my experiences at the original VG location. Since the move I’ve gone twice. First was a few months ago. I went for dinner and ordered Greek food. It was not good compared to the quality at their VG location.
Second was this past Sunday for breakfast. They asked me to pay an extra 50 cents for rye toast instead of white/wheat. I declined. It’s a minor thing, but it completely baffled me. I’ve never heard of that before in the countless diners I’ve eaten in across the country. I can only assume they’re hurting financially.
The breakfast food itself was good. I can see going back for breakfast, but there are a number of other places I would choose first. —ZedOmega

2008-04-04 10:41:20   Best rice pudding, evah! No sodden or over-sugared rice pudding here. Truly delicious. Also, very good Friday fish fry. Having recently been to the always highly ranked Jeremiah's, and being surprisingly and sorely disappointed (our fish was over-fried and oozing grease—on top of this we were rushed through our meal by the wait-staff so as to turn over the table), friends suggested Mykenos. I put them off several times and finally gave in. My first fish fry was a good-sized, golden, beer-battered haddock that flaked off in huge, tasty chunks. My next fish fry, while still tasty, wasn't as flaky. Going back tonight for a 3rd try. —LizDee

2008-05-20 22:10:59   Though no one would ever say Mykonos was high-end Greek cuisine, I've enjoyed this diner for several years now thanks to its close proximity to home, reasonable prices, good quality, and fast service. Unfortunately, in the past few months, all of that has changed... except fro the proximity to home. First it was the "add-ins" - a $1.50 charge for pita that used to come free with the appetizer; $1.50 extra for veggies substituting potatoes, etc. Now the menu has changed and the majority of the items have increased substantially in price: omelets used to be around $6.50; now they're $8. You get the idea. This would have been allowable had the quality remained consistent (nobody escapes the price of gas these days)... but when I ate there tonight my chicken kebab was 1/3 smaller and absolutely dripping in grease. I could hardly eat it. Mykonos' proximity to home is no longer enough to keep me coming back. I'll be venturing to other diners with better quality - and prices. —GreenBrenana

2008-07-15 02:22:13   Not anything incredibly special. Visited a couple of times recently with some friends, and both times the food was fair at best. Tried the Philly Cheese Steak tonight, and it wasn't very flavorful, despite being filled with fried peppers and onions. The fries weren't very good, and there were very few of them. I don't think that this is one I'll rush back to any time soon. —LincolnComet
