See Gone, But Not Forgotten

Olga's Restaurant was a Ukrainian restaurant located in Rochester.

The food is decent for home-style cooking, nothing sophisticated, the main attraction is the price — everything is exceedingly well priced. Vodka is served properly in pitchers, also surpisingly reasonably priced. If you like beer, make sure to sample the good selection of Baltika's — from №1 to №9.

Ukranian dancing starts around 9 pm every Saturday, to the loud karaoke-style live Ukranian music. Make sure you can handle rock concert level synthesizers if you are trying to eat during that time.

Overall, the food is not as good as Paradigm used to be, but much cheaper.

2006-08-08 06:58:13   Clean and stylish restaruant, Olga's serves up some phenomenally tasty food. Check out their Chicken Kiev, it's out of this world. Add a nice Ukrainian beer to the meal, and you're all set. —RemekKocz

2006-11-19 12:22:07   extracted from previous edit -TonyBurba The service can be quite hectic — there's only one waiter even on the full-busy nights, so be prepared for the meal to take 3 or 4 hours. The multi-course (get 7 or 8 small dishes) meal layout lends itself to the slow service, so it's never really a problem unless you can't handle the ear-drum piercing music.

2007-02-02 15:42:27   Having dined recently at Olga's as part of a party of six, I can say that all were extremely pleased with our experience. The food was delicious, service was timely, and the price was value. We were there on a Friday evening and each of us will definately return. —DeloresMerkey

2007-02-25 11:47:53   They aren't open on Sundays for dinner. But their Borscht is fantastic and the service was great. —ClaraSibley

2007-03-31 22:02:45   Delightfully tacky decor and music (flashing lights, spinning rainbow disco light, and loud Ukrainian pop music). I love it. Unfortunately, they were out of borshch by the time I got there. I had a huge plate of pelmeni and Baltika #7. Make sure you have several hours open—the pace is very relaxed here. Olga also has a gift shop next door and a grocery a few doors down. —RachelBlumenthal

2007-09-21 23:00:04   Looks like a hole in the wall from the outside; the inside looks like a whole different world. We went on Friday night, no music (we arrived after 8pm), so we could just concentrate on enjoying the food. The borscht was *out of this world!*, the liver stroganof was delightful (only recommended if you LOVE liver, though), and the pork cutlet was also phenomenal!

(The trick - if you don't speak ukranian - can be getting waitstaff who understand english, but if all else fails, point and raise the number of fingers to correspond with how many.)

Over all, WELL worth the trip, and we'll be going there many times in the future. —TpSuhr

2007-11-09 10:09:41   I swear this place is never open. I called one Saturday to make sure they were open, and they said yes. I show up an hour later and the place is closed for a party. I tried to swing by on a Thursday around 7PM and the place was closed, and it was closed on Sunday as well. I'm about ready to give up on the place. —AlAbonado

2007-11-09 12:07:13   We're going there tonight (Nov. 9th) from 6 to 8pm. I called ahead and, fingers crossed, they should be there and open around that time if you want to try again. They do look closed most of the time, even with the "Closed" sign on the door, but try not to get discouraged by that - walk in and ask if you can be seated. —SashaMisyulya

2008-02-20 23:51:34   A great restaurant to visit for some good Ukrainian food. I've been there for parties as well as quiet afternoon meals. The establishment is always very clean and tables beautifully set, the staff very friendly and the menu unique with a wide variety of delicious foods. Great prices. The Chicken Kiev is my all-time favorite. Great dinner wines too. Definately a place to go for a wonderfully different dining experience and once there you don't want to quickly eat and run, you want to take your time and enjoy. I think they still have their afternoon buffets, something new that started a few months ago. —AlexandraLee

2008-09-27 17:58:51   It's about 6:00 pm on a Saturday night and I just called Olga's to see if they're open, as I have been wanting to try this place for months. The woman on the phone barely spoke English and I'm pretty sure that what she was trying to convey is that no, Olga's is not open for dinner tonight. Damn! The quest for decent Ukrainian food will have to continue! —TrishHeckmann
