The Pirate Toy Fund is a nonprofit organization located on East Main Street, dedicated to donating toys to children in need and to
"provide toys to all area hospitalized children, as well as children in need, as result of disaster and family trauma for the purpose of fostering happiness, emotional well-being, and an appreciation for their community’s commitment to their growth."1
The Fund was started by
Gary The Happy Pirate, who still performs around town for kids of all ages.
The Fund has a Coin Canister program where they collect money in canisters at local businesses, you can see a list of more than 35 such businesses and learn more on their
How Can I Help page.
Strong National Museum of Play is a permanent collection point for donations. Take along a toy for your child to donate to another less fortunate child when you take them to the museum - teaching kids about giving to others.
The Fund has worked with News 10 NBC since the first drive in 1999 and collected more than 14,000 toys in 2008.2
