2005-12-11 14:08:54   If I am putting 2+2 together correctly, the sign is in response to a set of city laws/restrictions that involve an inspection & extra fees for shops in the city. This includes a picture of the owner to be posted at the store, or available to the public via the city (which is insane, but I would not put it at Nazi-level insane). For some odd reasons, these inspections and fee's do NOT apply to larger businesses, but only small ones. - FarMcKon

2006-03-03 16:49:36   The food here is definitely comparable to Dinosaur, and it's also a bit cheaper if I remember correctly. The portions are big and the sauces are great. The atmosphere is pretty cool too. —RachelBlumenthal

2006-03-03 23:26:47   i would actually say they are better than dinosaur.... —JcPop

2006-05-18 23:17:51   I think Dinosaur has much better sauce, but I got the dry ribs at Sticky Lips (which Dinosaur doesn't have) and they were delicious. —MicahMilinovich

2006-08-07 14:28:20   Walking in though I could imagine when it’s busy there not being much room for a large group to wait, but there wasn’t really any wait time so that worked it self out. After we were sat our waitress was right over and gave everyone waters and introduced herself. It didn’t take us long to figure out what we wanted and as soon as the last person closed their menu the waitress was right back to take our order.

Amazingly, our food was out before I could believe it. The waitress and a waiter walked over with all this food and stopped at our table, and I just assumed it was for some other group. Fastest service I’ve ever had. I got one of the combo platters. It’s three different meats, two sides and corn bread for around $15. I can’t compare it to the Dinosaur since I’ve never been there but as a BBQ fan I’d say it was very good. I’ll definitely go back. The Sweet Potato Fries were excellent but I didn’t dig the Ratatouille.

If you need to get out for a walk afterwards as we did, nearby is Park Ave which is excellent for walking or right across the street from Sticky Lips is East High School which has a ¼ mile track that you can walk on. Also just down Culver Rd is Cobbs Hill Park. —RickU

2006-11-26 15:22:41   I like the food here better than Dinosaur, and the menu has many more options. Dinosaur might have the edge on ambience, but not by much. The service is very friendly, including the owner, who tries to get around to every table when he's there and is always glad to hear comments/suggestions. My vegan friends have also enjoyed the dishes they had here. —StevenDibelius

2006-11-27 12:59:28   Coming to Rochester after living in Nashville, TN for four years I was disappointed in Dinosaur but then pleasently surprised with the food and decor at StickyLips - both of which are more genuine than at Dinosaur. I recommend sitting upstairs if you can and definitly order the sweet potato fries. The only negative aspect to StickyLips is they don't have any beer on draft. —EllenKelsey

2006-12-14 13:43:48   If I want BBQ and my butt isn't in a seat at Unkl Moe's then you'll find me here. I stopped using Dino as an alternative once this place opened. The menu offers more selection. The food is just as good or better. And typically there isn't a long wait for a table or service. —ZedOmega

2007-02-05 09:36:00   Better than dinosaur. way better. —NjTourist

2007-02-06 11:40:00   I ate here in early 2006 and only found the food so-so. My wife had collard greens and claims it was the worst dish she's ever had eating out. We much prefer the Dinosaur BBQ. If this is what southern BBQ tastes like, then they can keep it. I also think people are biased towards this place because it's local to Rochester and Dinosaur BBQ is a Syracuse based joint. —TravisOwens

2007-02-06 19:00:27   I like the food better than the dinosaur as well, their portions are huge and the service is real quick, I just wish it wasn't so cramped in there and they had a bar, not just beer. —MaggieSmith

2007-02-11 21:15:55   So much better than Dinosaur, hands down. Try the cherry bomb sauce on anything. It's worth it. —AlixHamilton

2007-04-29 15:45:51   OOOhhhhhh yeah. Ahhhhhhh baby. Doin' it like it should be done. I am yours for life. —ScotFear

2007-05-21 22:43:16   I love this place. Ever since I tried their Cherry Bomb sauce, I was hooked. They couldn't sell any, and I couldn't find something similar anywhere. I buy a version online now at the [WWW]Cherry Stop. Pretty much anything that can have a cherry flavor, they make. —BobMongiovi

2007-06-01 09:55:58   We eat here for lunch a couple times a month. Parking is easy. We rarely have to wait to be seated and service is almost always top-notch. The portions aren't quite as big as they should be. (I usually walk out slightly hungry after an $8 sandwich.) If I'm really hungry, I have to drop $12-$15 for lunch here, not including drinks, which is too much. Sauces are the highlight, but the kitchen rarely gets it right. Some sauces are on the table, but some are only in the kitchen, so if you're picky.... Overall, a great place to eat if you are not that hungry or are independently wealthy. —JamesStanley

2007-06-29 12:59:06   The food was superb (I ordered the brisket with Cherry Bomb sauce; it was quite tender and yummy) and the service was fast and pleasant. Am eager to come back and try out other stuff on their menu. —CatherineConnolly

2007-06-30 13:35:01   I like everything about Sticky Lips. Fun staff, great food... BEER. —DanDangler

2007-08-12 13:08:21   Great food, staffed by babes. —IdSaysgo

2007-10-02 20:48:15   The best ribs (does anyplace else even have dry rub?), best fried green tomatoes, and best collard greens in town. All faster and friendlier than Dinosaur. I've never had a bad or good meal here - it's always great! The ribs are so good, I've never convinced myself to try the chicken, but everyone I know loves the cherry bomb. —McgMatt

2007-12-09 16:33:44   If I want to go and sit down and eat at a BBQ place, I go to Dinosaur. If I want take-out or the lines are too full at Dinosaur, then this place is just as good. —NoahLeaf

2007-12-10 13:29:43   Ate here last night and had the pulled pork w/ sweet potato fries and cole slaw. Delicious. Also had the nachos as an app...love their chili. My partner had the brisket that was a tad burnt around the edges, but still good.

Server suggested I try the Blue Moon special ale for winter "Full Moon". I didn't like it, so she brought me the original one I asked for! Brilliant!

I'm not a connoisseur of bbq...but I have had it all over the south + tx and I much prefer Sticky Lips to Dinosaur. That's just me. Maybe it's cause I can never find parking around Dinosaur. —MarcVera

2008-02-06 20:21:09   Utterly unimpressive. The place feels like a desperate attempt at a Dinosaur imitation, complete with cheeky dish names, nearly identical selection of sides, and retro decor. It tastes even worse, much in the spirit of the now-defunct Moonshine BBQ. Pulled pork is tasteless, so the whole gimmick is to drown it in one of the four or so sauces provided. This doesn't improve the flavor, and the overall result is mediocre at best. —RemekKocz

2008-02-10 14:07:48   After eating here recently, I don't see how anyone could like this place. The service is awful. Our server was inattentive. I asked a different server than ours (because ours was nowhere to be found) for another beer, and she SNAPPED at me that she was not our server! We almost walked out, but I was starving, and I love me some bbq. After waiting an hour, our food was served. We should have left when the server yelled at me. The ribs were dry, tough, and gristly. The cornbread was inedible due to being burnt. The beans were ice cold. The sweet potato fries were limp, cold and greasy. In all fairness, my date said that her burger was pretty good. I tried this place because of the great comments I read here. Evidently times have changed. It is obvious that the owner is just phoning it in at this point, and no longer takes pride in the food. I'll never eat there again. —SavageHenry

2008-06-17 20:56:21   Seems to have gone downhill a bit, past couple times I have tried it were not as good as in the past. The ribs and other meats were kinda dry. The orders came out quick, almost too quick, like everything was pre-made and all they had to do was drop it onto a plate. —DottieHoffmann

2008-07-15 16:11:15   I guess its all luck of the draw, responding to the last couple comments. My experience was pretty good here. I really liked their sauces. They are pretty good for vegetarians as well, as someone I went with ordered the "Crispy Tofu Vegetarian Etoufee" and loved it (it doesn't sound good but its really good). Our waitress was quite nice and helpful. Maybe it was good because it wasn't too busy when we went? Not sure. —TippingPoint

2008-07-15 18:55:43   They did a very good Job at the Big Rib BarbeQ festival. —ThomasPawlik

2008-07-20 17:25:01   Very busy. The pulled pork is very good. I prefer the regular BBQ sauce and the Carolina Clipper mustard sauce. I'm surprised to see no one mentioned the Pittsburgh sandwich. Fried capicola, french fries, coleslaw, & diced tomato on thick grilled bread makes for a memorable lunch. —ZachSmalt

2008-07-21 16:44:42   All I have to say is YUM! One of our all time favorite Roc Eats-great service, fun atmosphere, and delicious grub! (and yes, I'd have to agree, I like it better than Dinosaur) —BurbsGal

2008-10-06 16:00:27   Awesome fried green tomatoes! And the pittsburgh sandwich is heaven! Great food, good prices. The only downfall is that it can get really noisy in the dining room. —dmarie

2008-12-09 12:44:57   Maybe the owner needs to charge some random "fees" here and there (like he does at Chester Cab) so he can finally afford a bar! While I like the variety of sauces, the food I put on is consistently dry and feels like it was rushed. —BatGuano

2009-04-10 10:45:06   In addition to authentic BBQ, I've recently had an amazing burger here. If you're looking for a perfectly cooked medium-rare burger at a fair price with delicious side options, StickyLips is the place to go. MUCH better than any other burger I've had in Rochester. —EllenKelsey

2009-04-15 19:03:46   I've eaten here a few times and have enjoyed my meals each time. My boyfriend and I are both vegetarians and between the two of us, have tried almost every veg item on the menu. They have all been delicious and satisfying! Huge portions for a decent price (be prepared for leftovers!) Try the Pittsburgh sandwich with a lentil burger, or the marinated BBQ block of tofu. Oh, and they also serve loganberry! Need I say more? —TrishHeckmann

2009-06-10 13:39:26   Really enjoyed their beef brisket - it was expertly smoked and very tender. I was however disappointed with their BBQ baked beans. They seemed off somehow, not sure if it was the sauce they used. I recommend their sweet BBQ sauce, and also their sweet potato fries, which were some of the best I've ever had. —MerCDotes

2009-10-05 13:14:08   TERRIBLY inconsistent. I've had awesome brisket here ... ONCE. Every other time I've tried it, the brisket's been terribly dry. I can say the same for their sides — sometimes they're great and sometimes they're horrible. The sauces are "meh", especially when you're using a ton of it to make the dried out brisket or pulled pork palatable. So much potential, but they've been letting me down. —LoisGraham

2009-12-08 22:08:37   When I go here I go for the Pittsburgh sandwiches with pulled pork on them. I go for the food, not the service though. I can't recall ever having a waiter that I felt deserved the tip. Tonight my table had to wait 30 minutes before they took our drink order, then later once the food was served I had to find another waitress to get us a refill of our various drinks. I've never had to do that at any restaurant in Rochester before. Also they failed to add my garlic dill pickle to my dinner, I will never know what might of been had I had my garlic dill pickle. —DamianKumor
