2007-08-18 11:05:52   My husband and I tried Taka House last night. We will not eat there again. Nothing was memorable - the sushi rice had absolutely no proper texture or flavor, the fish seemed to have been dipped (or kept) in lemon water, the soy sauce even seemed weak. A big disappointment. The service was only adequate. —JudyBolton

2007-08-23 13:40:05   My friends and I had a good experience at Taka. We found the sushi well prepared, the udon excellent and you get a lot of good food for a reasonable price. Our waiter was obviously new and had a little to learn about the menu, but he was very polite and attentive. —SushiGirl

2007-08-29 18:10:13   ...CONSUMERS OF WEBSTER PLEASE LISTEN...I am very knowledgable about food preparation, due to the fact that I teach Home and Careers at a catholic school. Sushi, either is sold, or it is thrown out. Taka house is doing horrible business, thus the sushi is not fresh. It is not cheap, and I am sure they can not afford to waste it. Once sushi begins to age, bacteria grows inside, even if it is kept at the proper tempurature. The color begins to change, and what you have is a classic form of poison. The elderly can be horribly injured, and childern ( their not even supposed to be eating fish anyways) could be hospitalized. SUSHI IS NOT A JOKE MY FRIENDS. I beg you, if you want to really enjoy Japanese cuisine, go down the street across from Loews theater, and try Fujiya. I have examined and had their sushi, it is fresh, fresh as fresh can be. DO NOT RISK YOU AND YOUR CHILDERN BY TRYING MEDIORCRE FOOD. Thank You —MicheleGulliver

2008-07-13 20:06:59   My fiancee and I went to Taka House today. We were satisfied with everything we ordered. The service was quick. They brought out the sushi on multiple plates over about ten minutes so it would be faster. They had some very creative rolls, including a delicious mango roll. They seem to have improved since the negative reviews below! —DevinRosenbauer

2008-08-01 15:23:55   Taka house is wonderful. There rolls are some of the most unique in the area. Presentation is always excellent. What I love most is that their edamame tasted different that everywhere else. It has a vegetable broth taste which is fresh. Service is always superfast no matter what time of the day you visit. And the prices are the most reasonable in the area. We eat there weekly. —tinarochester

2008-08-07 17:02:10   Taka House may be the best Japanese restaurant in Upstate, NY. They are excellent hosts who make you feel like a valued customer. Their Tempura is the lightest and least greasy I have had anywhere. Their Soba and Udon Noodles come in a flavorful broth that appeals to the senses. Their various roll are also the best I have had anywhere in Upstate New York.

The only criticism I have of the restaurant is the large screen TV in the dining area. It would be nice if the TV displayed travel photos from Japan. Instead, the news or local TV channels are running. If they turned off the TV Taka House would be nearly perfect.

Consider walking to the left when you leave Taka House and visiting Mona Lisa for dessert. They have excellent gelato. —MaxLent

2010-10-05 13:27:37   MaxLent — I agree; what is with that TV? It looks odd at an otherwise well decorated place. I've been there 5 times in last three years, and every time I've had a good meal. Sometimes the service is poor, but I've found this to be true at every other sushi place that I have been in Roch. Overall, one of the better sushi experiences in Roch. —ScottLaRock

2015-08-04 13:40:23   went here with two coworkers for lunch on a Tuesday. Both myself and a coworker ordered the spicy tuna and spicy salmon rolls and it came with a ginger dressing tossed salad, the other ordered a salmon bento box. Every place I've ever been at that serves this has their own approach to the ginger dressing, either because they make it themselves or buy from a different vendor. It was fine, not bad, but slightly separated as the ginger mostly stayed on top and the liquid was at the bottom of the bowl. The food came out in a reasonable amount of time, there was 3 other tables that sat down when we did. The spicy salmon is cooked and shredded and put in sushi rolls and the tuna is traditional as expected. Because they use the same sauce, used generously, I had a hard time know which roll was which. I have no major complaints except for the fact the sushi rolls were extremely loose (not sticky rice?) and fell apart easily when dipped and this was true for all 5 rolls that were on our table. The taste was decent, not noteworthy. I wouldn't bend over backwards to go again but it's fine for the price.

I have read the other reviews and I was concerned about some people talking about freshness, which is so important in the sushi world. I might have had an ideal experience because Tue is when many places get in fresh deliveries. —travisowens
