The Smugtown Beacon is an online newspaper that comments on power and politics in Rochester.
It was established in October 2007 by Aaron E. Wicks and Christopher J. Wilmot. The Beacon is an independent source of critical news analysis and editorials.
The Smugtown Beacon was inspired by the self-appointed elites of the Greater Rochester, NY area and their peers around the world. The name Smugtown refers to a book written by G. Curtis Gerling in 1957 about Rochester's rump-kissing elites.
