The Tempests were a surf rock band popular in the late 1950's and early 1960's, known for their contrast to softer music of the time. They still appear to be floating around in one form or another. However, pretty much the sole reason for creating this page is to point people to their anthem Rockin' Rochester U.S.A — which despite its somewhat dated sound, it remains tremendous fun. Sure bet to get at least a grin or giggle out of anyone familiar with the area.
In their final years together as a band, they changed their name to Casper and The Ghosts.
Anyone care to take a stab at transcribing the lyrics? (I've done a terrible job thus far):
Lyrics, in theory, could go here.
Well, I left California 'bout a week ago
For a swingin' place and I think you know
It's in Rockin' Rochester, Rockin' Rochester
Rockin' Rochester, Rockin' Rochester
Rockin' Rochester, Rochester, U. S. A.
Got a cute little girl just a-waitin' for me
She's gonna give me kisses down by the Genesee
In Rockin' Rochester, Rockin' Rochester
Rockin' Rochester, Rockin' Rochester
Rockin' Rochester, Rochester, U. S. A.
