Rochester has gone to the national tournament in four of the last five seasons, reached the Sweet 16 twice, and the Final Four twice. In 2005, the Yellowjackets advanced to the National Championship Game. The four-year record from 2002-2005 was a gaudy 97-17. It is the best four-year mark in men's basketball history on the River Campus. The Class of 2005 was the first class to post four consecutive 20-win seasons (24-6, 23-4, 25-2, 25-5) as well as the first class to advance to the tournament every year.

Head Coach Mike Neer has taken the Yellowjackets to 10 NCAA tournaments: 1981, 1990, 1991, 1992, 1997, 1999, 2002, 2003, 2004, and 2005. The Yellowjackets' record in NCAA play is 23-10 (70%), among the highest in NCAA Division III history. The Yellowjackets won a National Championship during the 1989-1990 season and the University Athletic Association (UAA) men's basketball titles in 2004 and 2005.
