Upper Monroe Avenue is the area of the city of Rochester on Monroe Avenue bounded by Pinnacle Hill, Field Street, Interstate 490 and Cobbs Hill Park. It's a nice mixture of single family homes, duplexes, multiple rental units and a few larger buildings. The housing prices are lower than the Park Ave area, which is just a short walk away.
Much of the residential neighborhood to the south of Monroe Avenue was once under the cultivation of the
Crosman Seed Company. The company moved to East Rochester in 1924, but the brick building that originally housed the company still stands on the south side of Monroe Avenue between Crosman Terrace and Laburnum Crescent.
The
New York State Armory to the West of Culver Road is scheduled for eventual decomission. A neighborhood
design charette included plans to convert the armory property into a mixed use development. The
Rochester Broadway Theatre League has also developed a plan to convert the armory property into a performing arts complex.
The
Upper Monroe Neighborhood Association is fairly active.
Rochester City Living describes the neighborhood
here.
Neighborhood restaurants and bars include Jeremiah's Tavern, Le Lemon Grass, and Monty's Krown.
On the more eclectic side, you can get a wide variety of games at Boldo's Armory, and ferrets at Park Avenue Pets.
