Upper Mount Hope Neighborhood

Location

Central south part of the city bordering on Brighton. Defined and delineated by the University of Rochester River Campus, many residents are faculty, staff or students at the U of R and especially Strong Medical Center. This neighborhood is ideally situated, an easy drive to downtown Rochester or the shopping mecca of Jefferson Road in Henrietta. Also quick access to the 390 and 590 expressways and the airport. Surrounded by large natural spaces and lovely parks: Genesee Valley Park, Highland Park, the River Campus of the University of Rochester, the Canal pathway, Mount Hope Cemetery, as well as Monroe County lands at Westfall and E. Henrietta Road.

History and Demographics

This neighborhood was not developed until the University of Rochester built the River Campus, which was the original site of the Oak Hill Country Club. Also, the current route of the canal was completed in 1920. Most houses were built in the 1920s -1950s
