The house-made rosemary focaccia bread was good, as was the trio of house-made applesauce, garlic butter and balsamic drizzled in olive oil that accompanied it. I started with the beet salad which was very good and my fiance had the pulled duck quesadilla which was excellent. If one were too have too many during a long evening, one would crave a meal at the end of the night that tastes like that duck quesadilla - high class comfort food. + + For our meals, my fiance had the Pork 2 Ways - braised pork in a homemade tomato ragu sauce tossed with house-made pasta - This was fantastic. It was served alongside a few slices of pork tenderloin which were perfectly cooked and tasted good, but to be honest, I would just simply enjoy a huge plate of the braised pork ragu and pasta alone. I ordered the Spiced Beef Tips, which were beef tenderloin tips crusted in a very flavorful, somewhat spicy rub. It might be a dish that a non-spicy food lover would want to avoid. I enjoyed the spice and the kick, and found that a forkful of blue cheese mashed potatoes and carmelized onions combined with the beef tempered the heat perfectly. + + We did not leave room for dessert, although the offerings sounded tempting and will be something we will try out in the future. Everything was cooked with care, the flavors and texture of the meats and accompanying vegetables were perfect. It's surprising what a talented chef can do with the very same ingredients we use at home. Price and portions were not chain-restaurant huge, but perfectly in line with other upscale dining restaurants in the city, albeit with a slightly less hip atmosphere. My mother ordered the ravioli and the portion was so small I could not believe it. There were 7 small raviolis total (we counted) for $16! My poor mother left hungry. The salad dressing on my Bistro salad was sooo sweet it was not edible. The chef seems to like to put honey on everything. The lamb w/ couscous dinner flavors did not complement each other. Two of us had the lobster caesar wrap and the other had the smoked gouda mac and cheese (special of the day). Everything was fresh and had great flavor. Our waitress was very knowledgeable and friendly and actually seemed to like her job and believed in the food she was serving- she was really proud of our ranting and raving about how great everything was. The interior is very tastefully decorated providing a chill atmosphere suited to casual dining with wicked good, perfectly prepared fresh food. The service was excellent, the wine selection was very good (Tamas Zinfandel = A++ (big bold balanced fruity right-dryness deep luscious Zin)) , and the music was, again, in the chill laid back vibe. The dining room is small but doesn't at all ever feel cramped or claustrophobic. Its a great setting for good food with audible private conversation. Simply put, the food was excellent. We both had the beet and apple salad for an appetizer. It was a fantastic tri-sectioned serving of a sweet apple slaw, earthy roasted beets, and some savory spinach dressed with a vinaigrette and chevre. I had the smoked mac and cheese and can say calling it simply "mac and cheese" is a true understatement. However I think Bad Apples strategy is unpretentious simplicity. It struck the best balance of some very strong ingredients offering a great blend of the salmon, gouda, bacon, and cream. The menu item read something ripe for a disaster on a plate, but was delivered as promised, executed very well . My wife had the Chilean seabass which was done to perfection, was a great piece of fish, and was nicely complimented by the relish topping it. The potatoes with it were cooked exquisitely. Overall: taste=great, presentation=fantastic, quality of ingredients=impeccable, service=excellent, and menu=creative and inspired. Chef Chris has an excellent thing going with Bad Apples. It is a must dine destination for anyone in the area. Being right off Rt531 puts the location within the reach of a million people who will be very pleased to have a great casual gourmet dining experience with prices that are a good value for the excellent food you'll get. Its nice to go out to eat at a place that not just prepares food, but loves food. We look forward to dining there many more times, hopefully bringing others with us. This place is a real treasure, definitely the place you'd take someone from out of town to wow them. --["Users/jaja111"]
