Rochester's Central Library is located downtown on South Avenue between Court Street and Broad Street, in the Washington Square Neighborhood. The library occupies two buildings, the Rundel Memorial Library Building, and the Bausch and Lomb Public Library Building. The Central Library is home to ten separate departments organized by subject. Its collection contains over one million books, newspapers, magazines, DVD's, and other materials searchable through the Library's on-line catalog. It also has a neat-o tunnel (which is built into the Abandoned Subway) so that you can travel beneath the street between the old building and the new. You don't even have to check out your books to go from one to the other. Tim Hortons serves breakfast, lunch and snacks on the first floor of the Bausch and Lomb Public Library building and The Library Store sells books and gifts. The Central Library also offers spaces and rooms for community and organizational events and meetings. For information on reserving a meeting room check Here
Severe budget cuts have resulted in a reduction of hours and resources in recent years. The library offers wireless internet access at the main library, as well as at many branches.
