With other squid/octopus dishes I've had, more surface area usually means more chewy, but this had more surface area while remaining tender throughout. The szechuan sauce flavors were great, but it was too salty for my palette - easily remedied by taking a bite of rice after each bite of the main dish. Very dark in the interior (a cross between a strip club and an Irish Pub). Lunch specials are cheap, filling, and delicious. The author's favorite Chinese restaurant in town. --["MicahMilinovich"]
------
2006-12-02 11:29:40 nbsp It's not on the menu, but the frog is good, ask for it. --["TonyBurba"]
------
2006-12-03 09:22:08 nbsp Chen Garden offers good quality versions of the standard chinese menu items as well as few more interesting options. The dark interior and booths makes for a cozy date. Take out is always quickly prepared and nicely packed up with tons of extra goodies included in the paper bags. --["EllenKelsey"]
------
2006-12-04 22:50:52 nbsp I think it is the best chinese food in Rochester. I love their egg rolls, sweet and sour soup, and shredded chicken basil. Sesame chicken and any king of moo shu is also good. --["ScottHendler"]
------
2006-12-04 23:09:17 nbsp One of my favorite Chinese restaurants in Rochester! The fried dumplings almost match my absolute favorites from my hometown in Massachusetts. The service is good and the interior is cool. --["RachelBlumenthal"]
------
2007-06-21 22:58:46 nbsp Chen Garden deserves the title for the best Chinese place in Rochester. I have had a variety of their dishes and they have been consistently good. I love that when you get take out, they give you their duck sauce instead of the crappy little generic packets. Since their billing/ordering is computerized...they have never made a mistake on my take out orders. They always remember the extra stuff I ask for (eg. hot oil). Also, their hot and spicy wings are delectable. I strongly recommend it!

Update based on latest (and last) visit (Nov 08): I am not sure whether it is just my luck but there is a particular server who is absolutely horrible who I keep encountering. I mean that in every possible way - she is rude, inefficient and aggressive. I think she is related to the owners so I didn't raise the issue. She even delivered once and knocked so ridiculously loudly that I thought it was an emergency. Then she looked less than happy at receiving a 15% tip. During my last experience in the restaurant, all 4 of our dishes were swimming in grease. Absolutely terrible. I am leaving them for ["New Ming"] --["OneLove"]
------
2007-08-12 15:26:39 nbsp Big servings. Plan on bringing leftovers home. The pu pu platter is excellent, with significantly more (and better) food than what you get elsewhere; the Chicken Three Way is a great way to feed two people.

When we went there on Saturday, the waitress suggested we try their new smoothies.

Chopsticks do not come by default - at least for gringos. --["DaveMahon"]
------
2007-10-18 14:07:41 nbsp Hands down the best chinese in rochester and they make a mean cosmo. Also have the nicest servers in town. I would eat here every day if I could. --["MarcVera"]
------
2007-12-30 20:45:59 nbsp I had cuttlefish for the first time today, which was really good.
