He played three more seasons with the Rangers before being called up by the Sabres and sent immediately to the Amerks. Roy played the start of the 2003-2004 season with the Amerks before being called up by the Sabres for 49 games in which he collected 19 points on 9 goals and 10 assists. Derek then played all 67 games of the 2004-2005 AHL Season with the Amerks racking up 61 points on 16 goals and 45 assists. The next year he played 8 games with the Amerks before being called up by the Sabres for the remainder of the season in which he scored 46 points on 18 goals and 28 assists which helped Buffalo clinch a playoff berth and advance to the Eastern Conference Finals before losing the the eventual Stanley Cup Champions, the Carolina Hurricanes. This year, during the 2006-2007 campaign Roy collected 63 points on 21 goals and 42 assists, which helped Buffalo claim the President's Trophy as the team with the best record in the NHL during he regular season. His contributions also aided Buffalo the gain the number one seed in the Eastern Conference in the playoffs. As the Sabres progress throughout the playoffs, Derek "Roysy" Roy, a product of the local Rochester Amerks, is still a very important factor to the Sabres success of now and in the future.
