Was very impressed with the originality and quality of the food. Corn beef hash was out of this world!! Would be back in a heartbeat had I not decided to make a pitstop at the bathroom and seen the inner workings of the kitchen. As a former waitress I know that restaurant kitchens are far from spotless, but this was a true mess - overflowing trash and egg shells everywhere. Wish I hadn't seen this... —GreenBrenana
+ --------------------------------------------------------------------------------
+ 2008-02-29 19:34:26 The new location is an improvement, and the breakfast is as tasty as ever. Good corned beef hash and homefries. —EastSideStephen
+ --------------------------------------------------------------------------------
+ 2008-03-31 10:18:58 I get emails from a local auction house, and got one last week for Flour City Diner. The auction is probably for the stuff at the old location. I'm on their mailing list, and I just got an email on Fri, Mar 28, 2008 at 11:44 AM about their weekend breakfast specials for 3/29-3/30. —BenMargolis
+ --------------------------------------------------------------------------------
+ 2008-03-31 17:52:04 We were just there last Thursday night. My husband and I were quite impressed. The food quality was high, and had more originality than 'standard' diner fare. Our service experience was above par as well — the young waiter spent a number of minutes talking to a very elderly resident of the apartment sitting at the table next to us, which was a heartening thing to see.
+
+ Overall, a very positive experience.
+
+
+ —LePetitChien
+ --------------------------------------------------------------------------------
+ 2009-08-23 18:35:49 Although I have eaten here many times and love the food, my most recent experience was even better. I had my wedding shower here a few weeks ago. Service and atmosphere were outstanding! We were served our pasta dinner in the courtyard while the staff, especially Jerry, did everything to make us feel special. I would highly recommend the flour city diner. —fatcat

https://rocwiki.org/Flour_City_Diner/Commentshttps://rocwiki.org/Flour_City_Diner/Comments?action=diff&version1=0&version2=1&ts=1248392073Flour City Diner/Comments2009-07-23T23:34:33ZBradMandellcreate archive
Differences for Flour City Diner/Comments

Deletions are marked with - .

 Additions are marked with +.

Line 1:

Line 1:

+ Describe /Comments here.
+ The ["Flour City Diner"] Comments Archive contains comments made prior to 2008 and was archived on July 23, 2009 from the ["Flour City Diner/Talk" Talk Page].
+
+ Comments
+ ------
+ 2006-09-07 13:25:34 nbsp Located across the street from the resplendent ["Hotel Cadillac" Cadillac Hotel] this ["downtown"] ["diners" diner] hides at the back of the first floor of its building. But once you walk through the door you are greeted by a small, cozy diner full of great smells and great food. They have regular specials and even put out a monthly menu. One of Rochester’s best kept secrets! --["ZedOmega"]
+ ------
+ 2007-01-05 21:52:31 nbsp Menu offerings that invite you to try something different and quality of preparation across the board combine to make Flour City Diner THE place for breakfast. ( I haven't tried lunch or dinner yet). I am a confirmed Bratwurst for breakfast convert. --["JoeMurty"]
+ ------
+ 2007-01-06 20:03:54 nbsp has moved to the same side of the street as the ["Hotel Cadillac" Cadillac] --["EricLarsson"]
+ ------
+ 2007-01-07 14:00:04 nbsp After hearing great reviews I just tried out Flour City Diner in their new location (correct location and hours now above). The decor was fresh, clean, and pleasant. Many of the employees were new as of the location change but were cheerful and helpful. I was pleased to learn all the eggs are local (non-caged) and that many items are made on site, like the sausages. The menu had a nice mix of affordable ($3-$5) standard ["diners" diner] fare and slightly more expensive ($6-$8) specials that stray from standard dinner food (I had an omelet with fresh spinach, roasted red peppers and goat cheese). I'm looking forward to returning to try their diner menu which will change monthly. --["EllenKelsey"]
+ ------
+ 2007-01-21 18:26:37 nbsp One of my favorite places in Rochester. The staff are characters that always have a smile on their face and the food is always fresh and of the highest quality. This is a must try especially in the new location. --["AdamGrossman"]
+ ------
+ 2007-01-24 12:45:59 nbsp I used to go nearly every single weekend. The ambience was very warm and friendly, the location had real charm and character and the food was always great. The new spot doesn’t do it for me. It comes across as cold and unwelcoming. The wait staff service station shares space with small tables that, if stuck eating there, makes you feel like you’re sitting in a hallway. The main dining area suffers from hard surfaces that cause every noise to be amplified. The result is everyone has to talk louder to be heard over the sound of clanking silverware, glasses and other conversations. Rochester has had far too many successful restaurants fail after a move to a new location; the previous restaurant that was in this space being a prime example. Since it completely lacks the charm and character of the old space, which was part of what drew me there regularly, I’m not so sure I’ll be back again soon. I think I hear my old friend James Brown calling. --["ZedOmega"]
+ ------
+ 2007-01-28 16:57:30 nbsp I've only been once, but the Bourbon Raisin French Toast was incredible. My companion ordered the potato pancakes which I thought were pretty decent. I wasn't too impressed with the Latte I got, and was surprised to find out that they don't have skim milk available. I was stuck eating in the "hallway" that ZedOmega described and he is absolutely right about that. I do hear, however, that the new location boasts a large waiting area that was not previously available.--["FattyFatFat"]
+ ------
+ 2007-03-11 11:11:25 nbsp I've enjoyed the food every time I've been, though I've only tried their breakfast offerings. It's worth noting that the restaurant only accepts cash or personal checks-- no plastic. --["AustinFrank"]
+ ------
+ 2007-03-23 07:47:06 nbsp Well when I went there last Saturday night for the fried chicken special it was not on the menu, replaced with a St Patricks day special. Then the waitress told me they may no longer be open on Saturday nights. I tried to go again last night at 5:30-6pm and they were closed again. Anyone know what the actual hours are now? I love the food here, but do not work in the city so I can't make it down for lunch during the day. --["KimBee"]
+ ------
+ 2007-03-23 09:00:02 nbsp I'm on their e-mail list, and they just announced that they will only be open for dinner on Friday nights. This place is a wonderful gem nestled into a not-so-wonderful piece of a street. I absolutely love the pierogies but haven't tried anything else there yet. --["RachelBlumenthal"]
+ ------
+ 2007-07-14 23:48:16 nbsp not for those on a diet. Nothing low fat here! But the food is alwasy good and consistent. Great fish fry. Bring your own liquor. --["RalphMeranto"]
+ ------
+ 2007-08-21 16:37:22 nbsp Everyone else seems to like this diner. It's a well-kept secret, and only a few people visit the place. Which scores above other diners in terms of noise and space. But I just don't like the food - I love eggs over easy. The whites weren't cooked, and the yellows were. I am not sure how that was accomplished! My brunch-fellow had a bowl of Irish oatmeal, which he says was fine. I also think the place is pricier than other diners. And it is a cash-only place, which is annoying. --["SukanyaBasu"]
+ ------
+ 2007-09-18 18:58:19 nbsp By far the best weekend breakfast diner in the city (of those I've tried of course). Excellent food at wonderful prices... plus the option of REAL MAPLE SYRUP for a mere pittance extra. Just be sure to have cash or your debit card (as they have an ATM... fees unknown and untested). The coffee here was even good, which we all know is hit or miss in the Rochester diner scene! --["GregDon"]
+ ------
+ 2007-09-19 16:11:48 nbsp FCD used to be a very nice little place to have a high quality meal with truly great service. As a result I was a very regular customer at their old location. The new place has no charm at all but I’ve still tried it from time to time, but with less and less success. Unfortunately now it’s just another place to avoid at all costs. The new location must be making Jerry and Kim a ton of money because I was completely ignored when I tried them this past weekend. After many minutes wait, not a word of welcome or “we’ll be right with you”, and a growing line of people behind me I decided to simply ask if they were still serving. Being left no choice but to walk to the rear dining area to speak with someone, Kim snapped at me in an incredible rude and offensive manner, telling me to go back and wait to be seated. Needless to say I immediately walked out the door. They definitely won't ever see my face again. Yet another Rochester business that has lost all concept of customer service. --["ZedOmega"]
+ ------
+ 2007-11-14 20:28:30 nbsp I couldn’t agree with you more. The wife is a miserable person. I have never received such bad service from an OWNER. You would think the woman would want customers to come back and feel welcome, nope, due to her bad attitude she has lost many customers. Many of us from Strong would go there for lunches and dinners, we have all stopped, 7 of us in all. I would rather eat mediocre food, than deal with a miserable witch first thing in the morning. I think the chef is great, but unfortunately the atmosphere has a lot to be desired. --["MichelleLiptak"]
+ ------
+ 2007-12-09 15:29:45 nbsp We found the new place, it's a bit hard to locate (see info we added to the main page). Food is still great in our opinion, and they now have more seating, a full bar, and will do outdoor seating in the nice weather. We have not experienced the service issues noted in other reviews, we've always been treated ok. Today Kim greeted us, talked a bit about why they moved (in addition to the above mentioned items, the rent is apparently way cheaper) and was very nice to us. Maybe she has good days and bad (?) --["DottieHoffmann"]
