The Freedom Market was a corner store in Beechwood. It was operated by NorthEast Area Development and offered fresh produce and other quality healthy foods at affordable prices. The Freedom Market also served as a community center. According to their press release:
Unique for being owned by the Beechwood community and neighborhood-focused, the Freedom Market meets the needs of area residents by providing convenient access to healthy food as well as information about physical activity classes at the nearby NEAD Freedom School. Located at 359 Webster Ave., the store has been expanded and remodeled, with most of the planning and construction work completed by Beechwood neighbors. The project exemplifies the cooperation and collaboration of several community partners. NEAD received funding and/or resources for the Freedom Market from the city of Rochester, Greater Rochester Health Foundation, Farash Foundation, Rochester Area Community Foundation, and Foodlink, which is supplying fresh fruits and vegetables to the market. In addition, Wegmans Food Markets Inc. recently built a new kitchen at NEAD’s Freedom School cafe, where some food sold in the store will be prepared.
Grand opening was October 31, 2013.
