The fact is that the Rochester area is for the most part - flat. To find anything resembling real mountains takes a 2+ hour drive to either the Allegheny Mountains in the Southern Tier, the Adirondacks, or the Catskills. There is some modest elevation in the Bristol Hills around the Finger Lakes.
