Upon his death, the house was donated to the ["University of Rochester"] and was the home of University dignitaries until the end of World War II. The house then became a Museum of Photography (originally George Eastman House Museum of Photography), housing a fantastic collection of not only photographic art, but also ephemera, movie memorabilia, and movie prints. Today, George Eastman Museum is one of the world's leading institutions in photographic preservation and conservation. In the late '80s the house and ["Museums" museum] were expanded to include a vast underground climate-controlled vault and exhibition space, while the house proper and most of the gardens were restored to the condition it was in when Eastman lived there.<br> - <br> - The museum also includes the ["Dryden Theatre"], a 500-seat movie theater named for Eastman's niece, Ellen Dryden. The Dryden exhibits rare treasures from the Eastman Museum and other film archives daily. Screenings range from early masterpieces like Buster Keaton's ''The General'', complete with live band accompaniment; to modern classics like the Coen Brothers' ''The Big Lebowski''; to foreign, experimental, and avant garde cinema.<br> - <br> - Some interesting features of the house include the conservatory, with a huge pipe organ that played Mr. Eastman down the stairs every morning, and the various taxidermied game animals hunted by Eastman. This conservatory is, I believe, the highlight of the house tour, simply for the grandeur, if not for the fact that Eastman decided one day that he didn't like the shape and size of the room. So, given that the conservatory is in the center of the house, he had his house cut in half and one half moved about 15 feet away. This project is captured in several pictures on the walls near the conservatory so you can see what the room looked like before, during and after.<br> - <br> - * [http://www.geh.org/ Online Collections of the George Eastman Museum]<br> - <br> - On October 6, 2015, the museum changed its name from George Eastman House to the George Eastman Museum.<br> - <br> - == Awards ==<br> - The George Eastman House was voted "Best Building" in ["City Newspaper"]'s "Best of Rochester" awards in 2010.[[Footnote(http://www.rochestercitynewspaper.com/entertainment/guides/BEST-OF-ROCHESTER-2010-Local-Color/)]]</span> </td> <td> <span>+ #redirect George Eastman Museum</span> </td> </tr> </table> </div> https://rocwiki.org/George_Eastman_Househttps://rocwiki.org/George_Eastman_House?action=diff&version1=24&version2=25&ts=1444999703George Eastman House2015-10-16T12:48:23ZDavidHoweofficial website link changed. <div id="content" class="wikipage content"> Differences for George Eastman House<p><strong></strong></p><table> <tr> <td> <span> Deletions are marked with - . </span> </td> <td> <span> Additions are marked with +. </span> </td> </tr> <tr> <td> Line 8: </td> <td> Line 8: </td> </tr> <tr> <td> <span>-</span> ||[http://www.Eastman<span>House</span>.org/]|| </td> <td> <span>+</span> ||[http://www.Eastman.org/]|| </td> </tr> </table> </div> https://rocwiki.org/George_Eastman_Househttps://rocwiki.org/George_Eastman_House?action=diff&version1=23&version2=24&ts=1444999662George Eastman House2015-10-16T12:47:42ZDavidHoweName changed from George Eastman House to George Eastman Museum. <div id="content" class="wikipage content"> Differences for George Eastman House<p><strong></strong></p><table> <tr> <td> <span> Deletions are marked with - . </span> </td> <td> <span> Additions are marked with +. </span> </td> </tr> <tr> <td> Line 10: </td> <td> Line 10: </td> </tr> <tr> <td> <span>-</span> '''George Eastman <span>House</span>''' is the former resplendant home of ["Eastman Kodak"] founder, ["George Eastman"], from ["1905"] to his death in ["1932"]. This conservatory is, I believe, the highlight of the house tour, simply for the grandeur, if not for the fact that Eastman decided one day that he didn't like the shape and size of the room. So, given that the conservatory is in the center of the house, he had his house cut in half and one half moved about 15 feet away. This project is captured in several pictures on the walls near the conservatory so you can see what the room looked like before, during and after.<br> + <br> + The George Eastman House is located at 900 East Ave.<br> + <br> + [[Image(eastman_house.jpg)]]</span> </td> </tr> </table> </div> https://rocwiki.org/George_Eastman_Househttps://rocwiki.org/George_Eastman_House?action=diff&version1=2&version2=3&ts=1124413893George Eastman House2005-08-19T01:11:33ZRobertPolyn <div id="content" class="wikipage content"> Differences for George Eastman House<p><strong></strong></p><table> <tr> <td> <span> Deletions are marked with - . </span> </td> <td> <span> Additions are marked with +. </span> </td> </tr> <tr> <td> Line 3: </td> <td> Line 3: </td> </tr> <tr> <td> <span>- [http://www.eastmanhouse.org/]</span> </td> <td> <span>+ * [http://www.eastmanhouse.org/]<br> + * [http://www.geh.org/ Online Collections of the George Eastman House]</span> </td> </tr> </table> </div> https://rocwiki.org/George_Eastman_Househttps://rocwiki.org/George_Eastman_House?action=diff&version1=1&version2=2&ts=1113530084George Eastman House2005-04-15T01:54:44ZTobinFricke <div id="content" class="wikipage content"> Differences for George Eastman House<p><strong></strong></p><table> <tr> <td> <span> Deletions are marked with - . </span> </td> <td> <span> Additions are marked with +. </span> </td> </tr> <tr> <td> Line 1: </td> <td> Line 1: </td> </tr> <tr> <td> </td> <td> <span>+ attachment:eastman_house.jpg</span> </td> </tr> </table> </div> https://rocwiki.org/George_Eastman_Househttps://rocwiki.org/George_Eastman_House?action=recall&version=1&ts=1113530068George Eastman House2005-04-15T01:54:28ZTobinFrickeUpload of image <a href="https://rocwiki.org/George_Eastman_House?action=Files&do=view&target=eastman_house.jpg">eastman_house.jpg</a>.https://rocwiki.org/George_Eastman_Househttps://rocwiki.org/George_Eastman_House?action=diff&version1=0&version2=1&ts=1113087649George Eastman House2005-04-09T23:00:49ZTobinFricke <div id="content" class="wikipage content"> Differences for George Eastman House<p><strong></strong></p><table> <tr> <td> <span> Deletions are marked with - . </span> </td> <td> <span> Additions are marked with +. </span> </td> </tr> <tr> <td> Line 1: </td> <td> Line 1: </td> </tr> <tr> <td> </td> <td> <span>+ <br> + [http://www.eastmanhouse.org/]</span> </td> </tr> </table> </div>
