2008-10-22 10:22:42   Keenans is an Irish diner, not an upscale restaurant. The food was acceptable, but nothing special. The interior hasnt been remodeled since 1984. The owners are very nice people though and run a great casual restaurant. —MrRochester

2008-10-26 13:55:06   I would disagree with MrRochester. Take a look at their menu and see they are quite a distance from an "Irish Diner". I took my sister and her husband there for dinner two nights ago. My sister is a gourmet cook (full page spread on her by Craig Clairborne in the NY TImes) and spent 35 years in the chartering, catering and restaurant business. She gave Keenan's high marks. I had a pecan encrusted chicken salad with cranberries and raisins that was both generous and delicious. Keenan's is a more "casual" than "upscale" atmosphere, but the food is not just "family diner" fare. —BradMandell

2008-10-26 21:36:23   Keenan's is definitely not upscale! It's a casual place, lots of regulars. I would not call it a diner, it doesn't have that feel at all. I don't seek it out, but whenever I've eaten there, my meal has been fine. —SaraChristine

2008-10-28 10:04:59   I would NOT call Kennan's a diner but it isn't quite upscale, either. I would call it a very nice family restaurant with great food. They have one of the best Chicken French around, and that is saying something in Rochester. I know a guy who was a chef there about 5 years ago and from our conversations about what goes on there behind closed doors, I totally trust the kitchen. I highly recommend this place for fine family dining. —BadFish

2009-01-23 19:24:05   I've never eaten here, but I'd like to add that the definition of "upscale" is vastly different in Rochester than it is in the rest of the world. Rule of thumb though, if your "Filet Mignon" is less than twenty bucks, you're not an upscale restaurant. —NoahLeaf

2010-01-27 10:50:59   I don't understand the appeal of Keenan's. My parents love this place and frequent it - they were diners three times in the last week. However, I have a different opinion. This is not an upscale place. I have had burgers and the fish fry here, which were both ok. Everything else I have ever ordered off the menu has been unremarkable and underwhelming. I've had pasta dishes with separated cream sauces. Last night I was dining with my family who insist on eating here. I ordered a haddock special served with artichokes, sun-dried tomatoes and mushrooms. It was swimming in a pool of watered-down butter. The sun-dried tomatoes tasted like they had been soaked in dirty dishwater and the mashed potatoes tasted like they came out of a box. Fortunately they had some decent Custom Brewcrafter's beer on draft. I won't be putting myself through that again. There are much better neighborhood places in Irondequoit than this. —HeidiWinfield
