2012-02-10 06:11:13   Living right in Bushnells Basin, we loved Peter Geyer Steakhouse. The atmosphere, service and food was wonderful. Ethel and her staff made it a truly enjoyable dining experience as well as a great place to stop for a drink. When LaRosas opened we thought we would give it a try. Our first impression was that while it basically looked the same, it was minus the little things that made Peter Geyer shine. The floors looked dull and dirty, the waitstaff hung around in groups doing nothing and the lighting was just, well, "off". Our bartender had zero personality, unlike our old bartender Brandon who was a pro. Our meal was fair. Total let down. We figured it might be because they had just opened and decided to give it a second chance . Our first impression was correct. The food is not much less expensive than Peter Geyer, but was horrible. It seemed like prepackaged food heated up, served with no sides or garnish...no placemats when dining at the bar, no salt or pepper...just a plate of overpriced not-to-good food plopped in front of us. Our bartender was a bit more personable than the lat, but even that could not make up for the rest. TThe desert selection was 3 pretty sad looking slices of less than appealing "treats"......presentation on everything was lacking. We found the waitstaff unable to recommend anything, but then again, WE would not recommend anything either! I really hope they get it together but my confidence is waning. If the old Peter Geyer employees/owners are reading this, we want you back! I would not recommend LaRosa's, and I am really not a foodie so they had lots of room with me for "less than perfect".....very sad. —KathrynKircher

2012-03-09 18:49:34   Hello Kathryn, Well, I am the "old" (not as in AGE!! ha!) Peter Geyer owner and wish to thank you for your positive comments about our restaurant. It was very difficult for myself as well as our employees to have to close the restaurant — particularly because we had such strong bonds with each other as well as our customers. I personally quoted your compliments to Brandon and he says "Thank You!". You may be interested to know that he plays drums for one of the most talented cover bands in town. You can find them via their website ([WWW]http://home.roadrunner.com/~frauckus/smokehouse.html) I had the opportunity to hear them play at Mickey Finn's last weekend and they brought the house down. The "Smokhouse" band also plays in Fairport at The Village Landing,as well as other public venues and private functions. I am happy to relay that all our servers, chefs and bar staff are either happily employed in the restaurant biz elsewhere, have returned for additional college credits toward their degrees or are starting new and different careers. So....despite our not wanting to "move-on", it has turned out that this has been a good thing for everyone. I have been blessed to have made many friendships with our customers over the years and have had the chance to get together and catch up with quite a few over the past few months. If you ever need to reach us, I have kept the Peter Geyer email open (as well as the FB page)so that communication is not just cut off (pgeyersteakhouse@gmail.com). Finally, for a few other great recommendations....my brother-in-law owns Benucci's at Pittsford Plaza and my brother owns Amiel's Subs at Cobblestone Court in Victor across from Eastview and also in Henrietta. Say hello to them from me if you go in!
Again, we so appreciate your comments as it is just further proof that we were doing all the right things!
Sincerely,
Ethel Duble
