Palmer's Direct to You Market is a very popular specialty grocer that has been in business in Rochester since 1850. This retail operation is a spin-off from their larger restaurant supply business. Because of that you can get either individual portions of meat and fish, or large quantities. The quality is generally quite good as it is the same food supplied to fine-dining restaurants.
They also sell a variety of prepared items as take-out food, and operate an on-site cafe.
" Since 1850 Palmer Foods has been serving customers and clients in Rochester and Western New York, distributing fresh seafood, meat, poultry and groceries to the finest dining establishments in the area. We are immensely proud to be the oldest family owned and operated business in Rochester." 1

2009-02-23 13:54:02 The restaurant here has some good food. As long as you can get there safely through the gravel trap on your way around the hotel that was built in the middle of the driveway. I had the Ahi salad, and enjoyed it quite a bit. Plus the no-tipping setup lessens the overall lunch bill. The first time through the food line can be a bit awkward, due to the multiple registers and all the foods displayed past the point of ordering. It is worth the confusion though. —TimCrandall
2009-04-14 13:45:00 I take back the things I said about their registers, the ordering system has been modified to be more standard, and shouldn't confuse anyone. Great crab cake sandwich too. —TimCrandall
2010-04-03 21:02:16 A weekly stop for seafood and some meats. Although Wegmans is also local, I feel better supporting this establishment. —ScottHendler
2010-09-03 09:59:41 Palmers used to have much lower prices on meats and seafood than Wegmans. While they are still slightly lower, the selection is better and the quality is more consistent. For example, you can usually get Nieman Ranch steaks, and most times they have at least two or three cuts of dry aged beef. Also, they have great specialty foods like Dave's Locker clams casino (most restaurants serve this brand) My favorite is that they have angus brisket for 2.50 a pound on sale. Hard to find anywhere else for the price. —ScottLaRock

2012-03-10 08:45:51 Palmers is the only meat market in Rochester in my mind. Nothing stands up to it's quality of everything, not even Wegmans. Everything is always fresh, delicious and cooks amazingly well whenever I buy anything from them - fish, meat, chicken, everything! Not only that, the food they serve on the other side of the store that's cooked fresh is always top notch quality. I've had better cooked food at Palmer's than I have at some 4 star restaurants. It's been so good I've even brought clients and family here and everyone's always been impressed and loved it. Always happy to go, always will go for as long as it's around. —AGoldman
2014-08-21 14:13:08 Ordered lunch there last week. No doubt the fish and chips dinner was excellent. Fish tasted very fresh, with the batter being firm and crunchy. However, the tarter sauce was extremely bland as was the coleslaw. Next time I will get cocktail sauce for the fish and chowder instead of the slaw.
