Rochester Pillar Church, or The Pillar for short, is an inter-denominational fellowship of the United Methodist Church. According to their website:
We are an interdenominational community that is actively working to create a community that reflects the diversity of our city. We don't reject denominations. Rather we seek to honor our histories, but value unity over separation. We seek to bring all the best our traditions have to have to offer, and bring them into a space in which they can be understood and engaged with. We believe God desired and created diversity, and feel it is our responsibility to cultivate it in all we do. By encouraging each others unique gifts and difference, we hope to produce the sort of "good" community that can transform our city.
The Pillar is located in an old factory in the South Wedge. The church's space is 6400 square feet and consists of three large rooms, one used for religious services, along with several classrooms, and smaller offices. The original industrial feel was maintained through extensive use of recycled materials. They even used storage crates found in the building to make a wall cover/soundproof barrier and old windows for the speaker's podium.
Community Space
The building is also available for use as a community space, similar to Flying Squirrel. The Pillar also hosts stand-up comedy, live music, forums and discussions, job training, and other events and services for the general public. One room serves as a small cowork.
The church also operates North Wedge Market in the same building.
No alcohol is permitted on the site.
