60 Browns Race, Rochester NY, 14614 |
The Center at High Falls was located in the nationally-registered Brown's Race Historic District within the High Falls District of Rochester. It provided an overview of area history, geography, commerce and culture for visitors and Rochester residents alike. The Visitor's Center featured many interactive exhibits regarding contributions from famous residents and the city itself.
Within the same building was also the High Falls Fine Art Gallery and High Falls Gift Shop.
The Center closed at the end of June 2013 on the grounds that it cost the City too much to run and didn't make enough money.
In late 2013, the Office of the City Historian began a contract to run the High Falls Center & Interpretive Museum.
The Center at High Falls and Interpretive Museum ceased operations on January 31, 2019. The Center has operated as a regional heritage tourism site at its current Brown’s Race location since 1993, under covenant with the New York State Office of Parks, Recreation and Historic Preservation. The Center has been under operational management by the Rochester Public Library and the Office of the City Historian since September 2013.
