The Fandango was an observatory located atop a hill in Mt. Hope Cemetery, overlooking our city and the Genesee River.
From the book Mount Hope, Rochester, New York: America's First Municipal Victorian Cemetery by Richard O. Reisem1:
On his 100th birthday in 1915, John S. Wilson recalled, "Upon the summit of the hill at Mount Hope used to stand a tower containing an elevator, and for a piece of money they would elevate the visitor to the top of that tower for a view of Rochester and surrounding country. This was called 'The Fandango.'"
