And why not: tipping is a diffuse regional phenomenon in that what applies to Rochester probably applies to Albany, NY and Boston, MA as well; but perhaps not Atlanta, GA. Is it not part of RocWiki's purpose to educate people not-from-Rochester about Rochester? In this particular case, it is for people who have moved exactly once -- those who don't know that tipping (like "tag sales" versus "garage sales" and "soda" versus "pop") vary region-to-region for reasons of law (i.e. minimum wage is different for servers; tax rates happen to be approximately 1/2 the tip rate) and custom (i.e. 15% is customary based upon (arguably) the pre-tax total bill). I welcome the comments and the ultimate advice to newcomers -- particularly the debate between patrons who have not worked in food service versus food-service workers and their sympathizers. Can you refute these statements? Can you point to a resource that addresses this issue in exactly how the RocWiki users/debaters have agreed? (I think not.) Would you be willing to change the page name to "Regional-Rochester Tipping Standards"? --["JasonOlshefsky"]
