The Hartnett Gallery at the University of Rochester is an on-campus exhibition space run by volunteer undergraduates with the assistance of graduate advisors and funding from Student Activities. A uniquely triangular space, the gallery is approximately 1,200 square feet and is located on the second level of Wilson Commons, the student union designed by I.M. Pei. The committee includes graduate interns from the Visual and Cultural Studies Program as well as a faculty advisor from the Department of Art and Art History. With their consultation, Hartnett Gallery operates as an instructional tool for the undergraduate participants in all aspects of gallery operation, from curatorship to installation. Submissions for the following scholastic year are selected each spring.
