This 100,000-square-foot building has various teaching and research laboratories, along with faculty, staff, and student support areas for the Department of Biomedical Engineering, as well as the expansion of the Institute of Optics from the adjoining Wilmot Hall. Although it will serve as the power house for revolutionary Biomedical and Optics research, it currently has state of the art lecture halls, classrooms, a computer lab and large seminar rooms for its students to use. One of the key feature that distinguishes this building from many of University of Rochester's other buildings is its large five story atrium. The building is nearly 80 percent complete as of now (April 2007) and when it is all completed it will dramatically redefine the term Biomedical Engineering or Optics at the university and in Rochester itself. The building is a great and a profound benefit to the University of Rochester. ||

+ ||In the academic year of 2006-2007, the ["University of Rochester"] completed its 30 million dollar construction of the BME and Optics Building and opened its doors to the nearly 4,000 undergraduate students, graduate students, staff and various other members of the university community.
