The river flows for 158 miles through New York. The Genesee River flows through Letchworth State Park which is known as, "The Grand Canyon of East." The river's name is derived from the Seneca word meaning 'good valley' or 'pleasant valley'... Obviously the Seneca never visited Florida, or they would have realized the climate in and around the Genesee Valley wasn't good nor was it pleasant. There are many waterfalls along the length of the river, the falls in Rochester are the only reason this miserable town exists. Some unfortunate souls decides to stop here on the way to somewhere better and figured they could make some money grinding things into flour.
